I have two or three potential opportunities.  Most of them might require major relocation
There would potentially be a significant pay cut involved. I don't really know. I will probably be less emotionally involved in whatever I do next.

I just made an appointment with career services here today. Trying to do some lateral thinking about future career paths outside of academia. I think my skill set and experience could go a really long way in a lot of different contexts; just need to figure out what those are, and what's realistically pursuable without a ton of extra education.

So I got a phone interview for a job I REALLY don't want, so of course they invited me to an interview at their office on Thursday.  Sigh.

If they'll pay me a buttload I'll do it.  like 75k. but if these boners think I'm going to take this dead-end job for like 40k they can go ahead and suck it.

I paid $225 split back home.  4 blocks from campus.  I pay 2025 for a one bedroom (split) 4 blocks from my office and am at risk of getting murdered.

nah. the landlords have owned the building forever and they are old and just don't really need the rent to be that high they said. It's kinda shabby but it works.

That is really scary Freddy. Is it like that everywhere in DC or are you considering moving to another neighborhood?

FK was it you or Dave who lived near Adams-Morgan (that was the part of DC that I really liked cause I got hammered there a buncha times, but it also felt pretty rough around the edges at 3 AM)

Dave lives in adams morgan. It is rougher than my hood, generally, but I am closer to rougher than rough hoods, which brings on some interesting problems.  For example, I can walk to trinidad in 10 minutes.

Shit, it's really distressing to read about that sort of poverty/crime cycle going down anywhere but, yeah, when it's happening in the capitol within a stone's throw of all these symbolic edifices and shit it takes on some horrible weight.

DC has probably the worst income disparity and crime rate in the country.

Strange how those go together. Johannesburg is the same in SA, and you don't want me to start posting news stories from there.

I made 35 cents (0.46 us dollars) in tips last night, total #newrecord

But I was covering for a co-worker at the second restaurant, which is in the middle of terrible yuppie wasteland so I guess it's to be expected...

I am truly shocked to learn that someone violated our national no-tipping policy. Report the person!

Perhaps it was a tourist? Even then, it's an unseemly transgression of local customs.
