Dear guy that I share an office with,
You don't need to schedule all these meetings if I'm the only other attendee. If you need to ask questions to only me, just say "Hey Josh" anytime that is convenient for you, and I'll be like, "What's up?" and then you can just keep saying stuff. No need to clutter my Inbox with meeting invitations.

The thing that he also does that actually is kind of annoying, is he'll schedule a meeting (like an actual meeting with more than 2 people) super short notice, like 2 hours or less in advance, and then 5 minutes before it's supposed to start send out a notice that it's been rescheduled, sometimes to later that day, and sometimes to a different day.
Working in an office is stupid.

My job-searching slowed down over the past few months because I've been contracting for a company and it's just enough to pay my bills. BUT I just applied for a job somewhere and, for the first time since this whole job-seeking process that started late last year, I genuinely believe that the employer in question would be foolish to not hire me. Like, with the scores of other jobs I've applied for, I've maybe met an average of 60-80% of the qualifications, and I had zero confidence that I was the best candidate. But in THIS case, it's more like 98% and there are specific aspects of my work experience that should elevate me above any conceivable competition for this position. I just wrote a cover letter that was all flexing, just me stylin' on some bitches, tuned up my resume a bit to highlight exactly the shit in my experience they need to be aware of and sent that shit off. And, uh, hopefully it actually gets to them because I was forced to apply through Careerbuilder and Careerbuilder is a staggeringly jacked piece of shit.
So, in other words, if I don't at least get an interview out of this one I'm gonna declare myself unemployable and go live in the woods.

Dangit I was really hoping that since I got a really nice house with a nice room and a big desk my boss would let me work from home for awhile, but no, apparently not, because "that's the way it is". I was going to make food at home and save money and be punctual, but okay, sure, maybe my work would go better if I was cranky and tired and stuck in an office all day.

Don't forget your wasted commuting hours. They boost productivity, too.

Actually those aren't necessarily a waste if I get the bus route that has a view over the sea in the morning sunshine, that's beautiful. But I have to get up early to get that bus. (I'm reluctant to think of commuting hours as 'wasted' because my mother did her PhD on why they aren't. But yes, the whole thing is a bit of a drag.) Anyway Dad says he was in his mid-forties before bosses would let him work from home, so I guess I'll have to wait.

Got some mid-semester evaluations from my students. One recommended I switch things up on the graphics and fonts.
Next lecture is so going to be in Comic Sans.

Our tech support person resigned effective immediately a week ago and now I am trying to fix something that he would've had to deal with. It's something from one of our most complainy, problem-having customers, and there's no way to get it back to exactly what it was, so there are just going to be more complaints and problems. YAY

A way to seriously take the air out of the conversation at a table full of aspiring professional academics is to observe, "I'm not sure what part of my job couldn't be done from Bangalore."

I got a raise today
It was under the national average for a cost-of-living increase

Since it's no longer appropriate to post in the job search thread...
I don't start my new gig until mid-July but they've already got me set up with an e-mail account and an account for internal social networking. I've received dozens upon dozens of warm welcomes from as far away as the Midwest. I've also been on the receiving end of more than a few sorta-kinda-not-really tongue-in-cheek (but always good-spirited) remarks about the very extensive workload that is awaiting my arrival.
I'm excited, but a bit stressed out--I know I'm gonna be good at this, but I SERIOUSLY need to pull my shit together, STAT.

Pardon my tone if it came off as anything other than what I intended which was: everyone's a bit stressed when they start a new job (I assume) and I am choosing to look at this great opportunity as a powerful incentive to dust off the parts of myself that need dusting off and move forward. It's good stress!
