Not that I should be surprised, but Neil Young has another album coming out. I haven't heard a note of Fork in the Road, but I bought Le Noise recently and for the first time in the decade and change that I've been listening to Young, I'm convinced that he really fucking nailed it for the first time since the 90s and it's not just that I want that to be the case.

I'm happy for Neil, but "solo electric guitar" is just never gonna turn me on, no matter how well it's done.

Not that I'm saying you should rethink that, but I was wary of the idea, too. I thought I'd want everything to either be acoustic (which a couple of them are) or have a rhythm section (and maybe they should), but to my surprise I ended up really liking it.

I have no idea what that could be like. Or why they'd do that.

Well, Lou's been a collaboration slut lately, so it fits in with that.

all three target bonus tracks for that record completely
rule
i get why they were not on the proper album (every other track on it cultivates this soft romantic assertion and none of the bonus tracks are remotely in that realm) and yet i do not get why they are not on the proper album (they completely rule).

New
William Elliott Whitmore album
out in a few days.
Very pleasant surprise. His last one was his first real misstep, but I'm optimistic about a return to form. I haven't done it yet, but you can stream the whole album at the above link.

Now now, Jimbo. Coastal Iowa has been culturally underrepresented for some time.

New Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss project
. Sounds pretty alright. Not Sleater-Kinney, but pretty alright.

Yeah, I was thinking that song on Pitchfork sounds like The Breeders to Sleater-Kinney's Pixies. Which is to say, still pretty good.

Right, but I think the point is that "coast" refers to the sea. In this case, the OP actually means "shore."

on the Wisconsin/Minnesota border, we sometimes called it "the third coast," maybe it's a subtle allusion to the renowned La Crosse/tristate-area cultural underground.

The Mississippi River forms the eastern border of the state of Iowa.
Having grown up in a town that could be said to be "on the banks of the Mississippi river," about 40 miles downstream from the southeastern tip of Iowa, I'm confident in saying that I am well aware of the river's position in relation to that state.

Thought "third coast" mostly referred to the Great Lakes
Anyway I'm pretty sure rivers don't have coasts, is the thing.

yeah, maybe in--pshaw--
eastern
Wisconsin.
or maybe I just always misunderstood the phrase, that is entirely possible. even as a midwesterner, I can't always read midwestern humor; that damn Garrison Keillor just confounds me, and did Killdozer
really
think the pig was cool?
