Oh, thanks, that's cool to hear! Perhaps I'll get over this prolonged phase of listening to nothing but Leonard Cohen until then!

Her last one finally came back into print on vinyl! I had been carefully not overplaying it on mp3 so that I could enjoy that when it happened, and it is now ordered and presumably wending its way me-ward.

Also, it looks like I hit 5000 posts very recently. I should have had a party!

And alex and Nick both just hit 6000, too! Parties all around, I say.

*pops cork*

alex and I have been neck and neck for a long while.

OT - Apparently, the new Meg Baird album ('Seasons On Earth') has two covers - one of The House Of Love ( Shocked) and another of Mark-Almond (which turns out, disappointingly, to be nothing to do with Marc Almond)

I've known about Mark-Almond since before I'd ever heard of Soft Cell, and always, always assumed that Marc Almond had taken his stage name as a reference to them. Imagine my surprise when I check wikipedia today and learn that Marc Almond's name is Mark Almond on his birth certificate, and not a stage name at all (unless you count the c-instead-of-k thing). I guess it was just a coincidence the whole time.

Listening to the new Opeth. Someone said a few weeks ago that it sounds as if Opeth made a jazz fusion album.

Yep, they did.

It must suck to be the guy who listened to the new Opeth album that was jazz fusiony. I hope it was short.

Update! There it is! I'll listen today.

The new release line-up for next week is kind of ridiculous:

Mason Jennings - Minnesota
Wild Flag - s/t
Blitzen Trapper - American Goldwing
St. Vincent - Strange Mercy
Primus! - Green Naugahyde

It's not every week I can put myself down for $75+ in new music.

Awesome! Also I like the dry humor in this line:

Quote
The current line-up of Smith (vox), David Spurr (bass), Elini Poulou (keys), Pete Greenway (guitar) and Kierion Mellings (drums) are now relatively established by Fall standards

Paste is streaming the new Mason Jennings record: http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/av/2011/09/album-stream-mason-jennings---minnesota.html

I already tried it once, but the volume was turned way down and I wasn't feeling it. Trying it again, this time with headphones, and it's just wonderful. He's really branching out on this one, in all different directions. The first couple tracks have a real Beatles-esque quality to them, but track 3 sounds for all the world like ... god damn it, I can't place it. Late 80s...college rock? Something just outside my mental grasp.....

Ah well, anyway, some of his catchiest material in a long while. I'm stoked.

Simon Scott - Bunny
Nest - Body Pilot  (half of Deaf Center, last one was hit and miss)
Hauschka & Hildur Gudnadottir (high hopes for this one)
Alva Noto - Univrs (lost interest in the Sakamoto collaboration albums a bit with Summvs, but this could be good)
Gui Boratto - III (liked his last 2 a lot, so should be a nice addition to a pretty beat-driven year)
Talvihorros album on Hibernate (droners, keep hearing the name, need to check it out)
