I was just thinking today that 2012 has been slim pickings. I only have about 12 or 14 things I've been really keen on.

I just looked through my collection and I think there are 2 that I really like so far this year. Along with several in the "yeah that's pretty good I guess" category.

Here's what I've got on my plate: http://rateyourmusic.com/list/fygmynt/and_now_its_2012/

I've only listened to the first 30 of those (the rest I've got on there to remind me to check them out), and of those 30, the top 15 or so are at least "pretty good I guess." Only the top 3 (Doug Paisley, Dr. Dog, Walkmen) have inspired any real enthusiasm, and one of those is an EP.

I've been excited about a number of new records this year, but most have been disappointing in one way or another.

And honestly? There's not much on the board for the next few months that I'm excited about. I'm sooo ready for Spoon to come roaring back to life with their best record in 10 years or something. That would be nice.

I quite liked Islands for a while back then. Are they still any good?

I have lots that are fine but not spectacular. In alphabetical order, these are the ones I really like so far. It's complicated by the fact that several of these artists have put out multiple releases this year.:

- Actress - R.I.P
- Ben Vida – Esstends - Esstends - Esstends
- Black Dice – Mr. Impossible
- Claro Intelecto – Reform Club
- Cory Allen + Marcus Fischer – Two / Twenty-Two / Steinbruchel + Cory Allen - Seam / Marcus Fischer – Collected Dust
- Demdike Stare – Elemental
- Eleh - Homage To The Pointed Waveform
- Gareth Dickson – Quite A Way Away
- Machinefabriek – 15/15 / Maastunnel/Mt.Mitake (with Celer) / Colour Tones / Lichtung (with Steve Roden) / Numa/Penarie (with Celer) / Greetings From Celer & Machinefabriek (with Celer) / One Man Nation & Machinefabriek (with One Man Nation) / Elastiek
- NHK'Koyxeи - Dance Classics Vol.1 / SND/NHK - Split
- Shackleton - Music For The Quiet Hour / The Drawbar Organ EPs
- Tape Loop Orchestra - The Word On My Lips Is Your Name)& The Burnley Brass Band Plays On In My Heart / The Boats – Ballads Of The Research Department / The Boats - River Calder / Tape Loop Orchestra – The Killer In The Rain
- Windy & Carl – We Will Always Be
- Zammuto – Zammuto

Then there are a few which I'm not sure qualify as full-length 'albums' (Emptyset, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Burial, Δkkord), although that distinction is rather blurred on some of the above too, to be honest.

Not sure what's coming out, except:
- Animal Collective - Centipede Hz.
- Library Tapes - Sun Peeking Through

A couple more...

A new Simon Scott album called 'Below Sea Level' on 12K, and America's best post-Stars Of The Lid droner, Kyle Bobby Dunn's new one, 'Bring me The Head Of Kyle Bobby Dunn', on Lowpoint.

That does sound promising! There is also a new 2-cd Richard Skelton album, 'Verse of Birds', coming out soon. Quite a bit of it can be heard here: http://www.corbelstonepress.com/verseofbirds.htm I haven't listened yet, figured I'd wait for the physical copy which I impulsively pre-ordered recently.

I pre-ordered that too (surprise, surprise!). I'm not familiar with Simon Scott yet, but both the music and the physical object for this new project seem very nice.

Do you mean that album, or Scott in general? Because he was in Slowdive in the 90s, and has released some interesting 'ambient' type things. Last year's 'Bunny' album got a lot of good reviews. I really like his 'Traba' EP from the year before that too. But my apologies if you are familiar with all that.

I did mean Scott in general, and I didn't know he was in Slowdive, and I don't know any Slowdive! So thanks for the recommendations.

I remember liking Traba quite a bit, so I just ordered that new Simon Scott thingy as well, along with the Gareth Dickson album I'd been meaning to get anyway.

Did you order the regular or the fancy version?

Just the regular one. The other one did look enticing, up until I saw the price.

Δkkord - Persistence/Nexus (a second single following the self-titled debut earlier this year)

Ordered this tonight. The first ep is a master class in understated brilliance and one of my favourites of the year so far.

obv. recommended if you like Grails.

As a dude who is totally falling in love with Grails as he writes this, I guess I'd like to hear more about &tc.

it's more samples and cut-ups than Grails but still the same overall flavor. give it a shot.

and other Emil Amos news,  a new Om track dropped yesterday:
