Now that the cold weather is back.

Thanks! Will listen. I hope I have another opportunity to catch this line-up (especially since I had to leave before the encore the first time, it was nearly 1am and I had to drive 1h30 and work the next day)

I've heard great things about that Cop City/Chill Pillars 7". I'm kinda curious about the Jacuzzi Boys record as well. What's it like? I like the first two 7"s - "Island Avenue" still gets regular plays around here. They kinda lost me after that.

The only other Jacuzzi boys I have is No Seasons and I listen to it all the time. I put on Glazin and the Cop City album last night and I enjoyed both very much. The vocals on Jacuzzi Boys always sound so sun drenched to me, it's great. The last song on the record, koo koo with you, is one of my favorite songs. I'm seeing them in the next couple weeks so I'll get to sing along!

I've seen Cop City/Chill Pillars a lot live and I was kind of afraid the recording wouldn't be as good but it totally is. They bring the heavy bass through really well and the feeling I get when the singer guy stares me down? I got it just by listening to the first side while eating general tso's tofu and reading the internet.

Cop City played here not too long ago--my friend Eric's band toured with one of their former bands (Chronic Youth) a couple years ago. The show was rather poorly attended, but fun nonetheless. I'm surprised that people in New Zealand know who they are.

Firstly, KDSB has abandoned God's Own Country for Melbourne over on the West Island. Secondly, he is a deeply irregular example of just how up-to-date any one person can be expected to be about garage punk scenes.

I see I was incorrect in thinking both that this was a 7" and that "Cop City/Chill Pillars" were two bands (it one band right?). So much for being "up to date" garage punk guy.

I haven't been listening to a lot of that stuff recently so I've kinda lost track. But I just found out today that Columbus Discount are soon to release a double LP live Cheater Slicks record. That got me very excited.

I've bought a lot of records recently. But today I got
Arthur Russell - Let's Go Swimming reissue 12"
Four Tet - Locked/Pyramid 12"
Nicolas Jaar - Space Is Only Noise LP

Nick Ink - Have you heard the Nicolas Jaar album?. Might be up your alley. A nice take on modern minimal tech/house, but not floor friendly at all. Manages to bring to mind both Villalobos and The Books at the same time.

When you gonna come visit Melbourne Mr GI? I got a large and super comfy couch you can sleep on.

I'll need to be a few thousand dollars less in debt before I can do that, I'm afraid.

Yes! I really like it, especially the first two-thirds. I also came across a brilliant edit of The Blow's Hey Boy that he did.

mates of state - our constant concern

robyn - robyn is here (her debut album from 1995... sounds like a janet jackson album. pretty amusing.)

In lieu of celebrating Halloween in some sort of adult-like way, I am on the internets telling people about the records I've bought lately.  All these are on vinyl, except the last one:

Glitter Wizard - Solar Hits
Kool Keith - Sex Style
Donny Hathaway - Live
Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual
SWANS - Time Is Money (Bastard)
Patton Oswalt - Finest Hour

Glitter Wizard is insanely good, on my list for best of the year along with Fucked Up and a couple others.  Really digging it.  Kool Keith and Donny Hathaway were both bought at the sacrilegiously cool Dusty Groove Records here in Chicago, and are both pretty good, especially the Hathaway which has some downright ridic solos on it.  Lauper is a top 50-or-so OAT for me, I just needed a replacement copy.  SWANS was an eBay splurge I spent too much on, but I am kind of obsessed with owning old SWANS vinyl.  Still need a copy of Filth but that's so damn unlikely.  Patton's hour is actually probably only his second finest hour after the last one, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

A pretty hard swing, going from Cyndi Lauper to early Swans.

Haha!  I suppose so, but I really love them both so much.  Like I said, that first Cyndi album is really important to me and I've loved it for a long time.  Plus, I have a total crush on her and her orange hair from the "Time After Time" video.  And M. Gira is maybe the most consistently fascinating songwriter still going today.  I've never heard a record by him I didn't like, including the Circus Mort stuff and the more shoegazy Swans stuff.

Today and before today:

Lemuria - The First Collection

Uncle Wiggly - Jump Back, Baby

That actually isn't the Lemuria album I ordered (I ordered Get Better), but I've decided to keep it since I was debating between the two anyway (plus I don't imagine returns to Asian Man Records are the smoothest process.)

So, it's funny we were talking about Nicolas Jaar - I've just found out that he has a new EP out - there's a very slow and minimal little track from it streaming at pfk

Whoa, I didn't know that Lemuria singles collection existed. For all I know, I've got like half of the songs on it anyway, but I'm gonna have to look into buying it regardless. They are just so good.

I've listened to it a few times now, and it's really good. Easily as good as what I've heard off Get Better.

More stuff:

U2 - Achtung Baby (Deluxe Edition)

June - I Am Beautiful

With so many disappointing reissues this year (Vs, Vitalogy, Nevermind, etc), it's nice to see one come along (Achtung Baby) that has some decent extras. I would've preferred the super deluxe box that includes Zooropa, additional discs with bonus tracks and a few DVDs, but it's just too expensive.

Some people hate this thread.  I love it and abuse it.  First three on CD, the rest on vinyl.

The Frogs - My Daughter, The Broad
Strawberry Switchblade - S/T
Diamanda Galas & John Paul Jones - The Sporting Life
Circle Jerks - Group Sex
Nation of Ulysses - 13-Point Program to Destroy America
The Magnetic Fields - Holiday
The Eyes - TAQN (drooooooooool)

Obvs, I spent way too much time in the punk section of Reckless.  Buncha good deals, as far as I'm concerned.  That Strawberry Switchblade is a Japanese import and it was only $10.  The Magnetic Fields is a new reissue and is one step closer to me completing the Stephin Merritt discography.  Circle Jerks and Nation of Ulysses are both reissues and are on BEAUTIFUL colored vinyl.

No worries, I'm poor now and won't be able to clog this thread for weeks now.

Oh, man, it's really great.  I had the mp3s of it back when I used to dl music (many many moons ago) and I'm so thrilled to have it again.  I think the only proper Frogs LP I don't have now is Racially Yours, which is pretty unfortunate as it's pretty killer.

Have you heard the Starjob EP?  Maybe the most delightful 20 minutes ever recorded.
