Yeah, and it's aged well, too, which isn't something his solo albums have been particularly good at.

I was buying some records yesterday and decided to splurge on some new stuff (on CD). So I got the new Malkmus, and also the new War on Drugs, mostly because both were on sale and in the case of the latter I feel like a failed Philadelphian for not having really heard them before.
My first impressions were that SM not really too thrilling, and WoD pretty good and sounding exactly like Kurt Vile (which makes sense, since I think he's still technically in the group).

after I saw the documentary Blank City about the early 80s NYC no-wave film scene, I apparently ordered some Teenage Jesus & the Jerks albums. I've always kind of loved this stuff without harboring great desires to really listen to it much, and that seems to hold. Don't think I ever fully realized what a force of nature Lydia Lunch is, though--got her autobiography too, and it's more drug-fueled sex in vomit-covered bathroom stalls than I even I would really desire.

oh, and because I apparently buy more music than I need of late, also picked up on vinyl
The Nazz, s/t
some awful-looking Utopia records
Elliott Murphy, Affairs
Tom Rush, Wrong End of the Rainbow
Bikini Kill, Anti-Pleasure Dissertation 7"
Pink Reason, Winona b/w Give Yerself Away/Letting Go 7" (figured I should finally hear these guys, and maybe the first song is about the town in Minnesota where my grandmother lived?)

Yes, it is indeed. I believe it's inspired by huffing gasoline with crust punks under a bridge in said town, though. It's my favorite Pink Reason song, and the first ever Dear Astronaut song (when it was still just me and an acoustic guitar) was heavily influenced by it.
You really should pick up a copy of Cleaning the Mirror, too.

Yeah dude, you really need to hear "Motherfucker" to get the full Pink Reason experience.
Also, that Nazz LP is excellent.

I'm a little behind on my Pink Reasoning, but gotta start somewhere, and that's pretty cool about "Winona."
The Nazz album is generally impeccable, but Rundgren's later solo stab at "Hell It's Me" is a
huge
improvement, IMHO. It's a stacked album, though--side 2 does not relent.
also, hell yeah to Philly bands!

Oh, yeah, no doubt the Nazz version of "Hello It's Me" is the inferior one. However, "Open My Eyes" is my favorite song Todd Rundgren was ever associated with, so I gotta give the nod to the Nazz album on the whole.

A few recent things:
Lyle Lovett - Pontiac
Passengers - Original Soundtracks 1
The Horrible Crowes - Elsie
The Lyle Lovett album has aged remarkably well. "L.A. County" may well be my favorite country song ever.

Pontiac
is a great record. If I could have a theme song, I'm pretty sure I would choose "If I Had a Boat".
Also, after
War
,
Passengers
is my favourite U2 album.
So, well done.

I would add that I think the latest Pink Reason record is intensely good. I might like it better than "Cleaning the Mirror".

Stopped by my local Borders for most likely the last time. Only two days left, and a 90% storewide sale. Was pretty much gutted, couldn't find any books, but I did find these for a total of $5.60.

Both Daniel's Laura Marling and Greg's Tune-Tards are great choices. I'm hoping to get into Marling's show next week - it's sold out but I'll see if I have any luck at the door - I guess they tend to leave some tickets back. I saw the new Laura Marling at record store and passed to get it at the gig, but I think I might just buy it tomorrow, since I don't even know if I'll get into the show or not.
I picked up the new Blitzen Trapper and the new Wild Flag, though.

Dropped ten plus shipping on Deathwish Records' "10 CDs for 10 Dollars" deal. Interested to see what they send me.

Used stuff.
As above. I've often kicked myself hard for not buying this at the time. I saw it in the racks back then but didn't buy it for reasons unknown. I now have it on vinyl. I feel less lame/
Tad - Jack Pepsi 7"
Eat Skull - Seeing Things/Stuff Reverse 7"
This was on the wall at Missing Link for $50 a while back. Too much. But it was there for $15 today for some reason. Score.
New (but all reissues):
Flower Travelling Band - Make Up
Whitehouse - Erector
Whitehouse - Great White Death
Nektar - Remember The Future
OST - Angels From Hell
Angels From Hell is pretty amazing. Notable for having tracks by Peanut Butter Conspiracy & Lollipop Shoppe unreleased anywhere else as far as I know. The rest of the record is a great example of what I like to call "Square Psyche". Basically 60's psyche as directed by Sunset Strip major label executives (see Dion's incredible version of "Purple Haze" as a great example). There could be a whole run of comps that cover this particular area of music history.

Is that a repress of Lysol? Or original? I lust after that one for my Melvins collection (repress or original).

In the last month or so:
...which I believe means I now own all of Leonard Cohen's studio albums.
edit: although the jewel cases (including back covers, but not including the booklets or, heaven forbid, the actual CDs) of my copies of Songs of Love and Hate and New Skin for the Old Ceremony have mysteriously disappeared. If they don't reappear, I might have some re-purchasing to do...

Original from back in the day. But not the very first press with the gaffer tape. And it was the one large gaping whole in my Melvins vinyl. I was super pleased to see it. It was on the wall in Missing Link. They'd only put it up that morning and I'm surprised it even lasted a few hours to be honest. I think the vinyl is OOP at the moment which seems bizarre as I'd imagine many people would snap it up with it being one of the definitive Melvins records.

I got that new Wild Flag album yesterday, and Des Ark's
Don't Rock the Boat, Sink the Fucker
. Also ordered their first album
Loose Lips Sink Ships
--looking forward to that getting here along with my ten mystery albums from Deathwish.

Ten New Songs
is pretty great; not entirely consistent, but enough excellent stuff to make up for it. I've listened to
Dear Heather
five or six times without being able to really make up by mind about it, so I can't really say.
