OT: I really picked a good family to marry in to. Future mother-in-law cooks the hell out of some awesome food. Best stuffing I've ever had, excellent mac 'n cheese, mashed potatoes, veggies, oh my god.

Taking a break before hitting up the pie.

At my dad's place in Los Altos, the house I grew up in. Got here around noon, unloaded, and turned on the TV. Holy urban blight, Batman! I hope Bloomberg sent in the NYPD to clear out 7th Avenue.

Coping with the near-total occupation of my dad's walls by my stepmom's oversized, framed, Thomas Kinkade originals by secretly getting high in the garage where I secretly got high throughout high school.

Tasty meal, no seconds, one glass of wine so I could teach dharma. After dharma hit my local for unlimited free food and more beer. Thanksgiving accomplished.

I made:

Cowboy Mashed Potaoes (recipe courtesy of LPTJ's own dear departed leslie)
Turducken
Cornbread-mushroom stuffing
Pecan-bacon stuffing
Chocolate truffles
a whisky-ginger cocktail with elderflower liqueur and orange bitters

And other people supplied stuff like roasted carrot soup, more potatoes, pecan pie, ice cream, and a spread of Russian cold cuts.

Most importantly, though, I got a cool-ass cat on my shoulder:

I'm on Hatteras Island in North Carolina 'cause its where my grammom lives
We are in a rental house across from her house, and had dinner down the street at a friend's because he has the biggest table.

I made
Cranberry blueberry pie
Peach pie
Pecan pie
Two mango pies
Cheddar biscuits
The out-of-bird stuffing
Veg gravy

There was also
Turkey
The stuffing inside the turkey
Turkey gravy
Green bean casserole
Broccoli
Tofurky
Mashed potatoes
Gross yams out of a can
Pearl onions in cream sauce
Two apple pies
Two pumpkin ricotta pies
Peach cream cheese pie
Pudding pie
so much wine.

Eleven pies for eleven people.

We played Apples to Apples on Wednesday night, and Balderdash last night. There is also beach walking and I don't even know. We usually go shopping today.. The island is mostly deserted because it's not summer, but most of the shops are open and having sales. There are a ton of galleries and local crafts around so I don't mind buying stuff.

I miss my cats.

Thanksgiving turned out quite well over here, IMO.  Trip to my parents' was pleasant, Dad did hook up the turducken, again with that spicy rice-and-shrimp-and-stuff cajun stuffing, which was great.  I ate well, but moderately.  That ruled.  I'm normally miserable about moderation, but this year it went really well and I never felt like I was stuffed.

The thing that killed everybody was this pizza dip my sister made.  Yeah.  PIZZA DIP.  It was a bunch of pizza-friendly cheeses and pizza sauce mixed with sausage and stuff, then topped with mozz and baked.  You spread it on slices of baguette.

That was an APPETIZER, folks.  Holy shit.  I only ate 1 of them, but man.

I also went the moderation path, but still ended up feeling seedy yesterday. I'm not used to eating rich food these days :-(

I survived by strategic eating. Raw veggies first, then cooked veggies, then lean protein, then the bad stuff.

I think you're on to something B...unfortunately, I started with cheese and crispy bacon, so it didn't go so well. Yummy though!

I made some pretty great green bean casserole. First I fried some bacon. Then I fried some green beans in the bacon grease. Then I fried some onions in the bacon grease. After that does it even matter?
