I'm inland so I'm not particularly worried. I live close to the Delaware River, but out of the flood zone. We had two big dead trees taken out last year, and I don't think anything else is close enough to the house to cause a problem. The basement gets a bit damp in hard rain, but we shouldn't get inches of water in it.

Still: food, candles out of wherever the hell they are now, pet carriers accessible just in case. Bill's supposed to play a [metal] show tonight, we have a wedding shower tomorrow, and another [acoustic] show Sunday. Soooo we'll see what happens.

My grandmother and uncle live on the Outer Banks and have not evacuated (Grammom's lived there almost 30 years and has never evacuated), so I hope nothing terrible happens there.

Looking like in dc its just going to be heavy rain/wind but nothing too scary. I'm sure we'll lose power because pepco is the worst ever power company. But last time we lost power, our building backup generators kept the hallways lit and apparently the hallway outlets powered so I just ran an extension cord like a fucking hillbilly

Oh yeah we have a little generator for if the power goes out, but we always end up using it on the fish tanks because my husband does not want his favorite giant ravenous fish-beast to die.

Yeah, I'm slightly less worried about the hurricane itself and much more worried about the fact that our basement (where I live, and where all the Tusquipment is) floods every time we get even moderate rain. So I've gotta get all the stuff I absolutely can't afford to replace out of my apartment, and then get all the Tusk shit and other extremely expensive shit out of my basement by myself somehow the second I get home from work today. Looks like I'm going to be spending a fortune replacing all of my clothing and furniture.

jm, you should strongly consider renters insurance if you don't already have it!

1) can't afford it
2) no way to do it with our current landlords

Are you sure? It's usually like $20/mo and when I looked into it, the landlords had nothing to do with it. In fact, the one time I complained about a roof leak that was about to ruin my mattress, the landlord huffily told me that's what renters insurance was for (because he did not want to fix the roof).

The landlords aren't so much the direct issue: it's more the fact that no insurer will insure five people living in our house. Believe me, we looked into this ages ago.

You can't get it independently? That seems odd. BUT I know nothing.

no, the landlords are renting this space to five people when it should technically only be rented to three (a fact that they deliberately obscured from us for years). Insurers will not insure an apartment that is breaking the law.

I wouldn't be so upset if it wasn't for the psychopath cokehead we're currently dealing with (who is staying another month! Awesome!). I haven't slept since Monday night, and I'm just utterly destroyed.

We just drove out to the show that was supposed to start at 6pm.. and oh look it was canceled! The dude putting it on posted about it on the Facebook event page around 7pm instead of calling anyone. Some other band drove all the way from Philly. One member of this band drove three hours from northwest NJ. GREAT.

I was playing 21 with some friends in a driveway... And I hit 21 and lined up for the three. I took the shot from some flagstones and came down half-on/half-not. The bottom of my foot, like the inner archy part, touched the inside of my ankle.

Incidentally, I made the shot and it was beautiful. Game-winner, but, my ankle is disgusting.

I've been icing it and elevating it all night but it still hurts so bad.

What kind of asshole airline makes a flight that departs at 6am? American Airlines, that's what asshole airline.

I'm puzzled. Why did you book a flight at 6am, unless it is because you need to be somewhere so early that you had to leave at 6am in order to arrive on time (in which case I doubt you'd be annoyed by the existence of a 6am flight)? And if you didn't book it, why does its existence annoy you?

Ah, I recall the days when I had to get to the airport by 5 AM for work.  It was nice to get out at lunchtime, though.

When flying West to East I think I prefer earlier flights as they do a fair bit for getting one adjusted to the new time zone.

I have more often flown red-eyes because they are cheaper but damn they mess me up.

Also, to be fair, FK's complaining is reasonable in a thread entitled "first world problems."

Oh, I have used these boards to complain about far more mundane problems than having to get up at whaever godforsaken hour one must get up in order to catch a 6am plane! I just found it funny that he blames the airline itself, rather whatever unfortunate circumstance dictate that he had to take a 6am flight (assuming that's what prompted the post, of course). But it's no big deal either way.

For instance, one thing that annoyed me this weekend was a a poster I saw in the window of a travel agency in Flanders, which declared: "Not everyone comes back from Thailand with a Thai woman. Some come back with a West-Flemish one." It went on to say something about discovering Thailand and your fellow travellers, and then guaranteed Dutch-language accompaniment for group travel. Travel to exotic places without ever having to associate with anyone outside your narrowly defined ethnicity! Icky.

None of those East Flemish types - no heart to those! No, only the sons and daughters of the upright West-Flemish life for me!

Well, I can see the attraction of having a West Flemish spouse. The West Flemish accent is good for hours and hours of entertainment.

Official senate travel... Had to take my gf to the airport. She had to wait a long time to book tix and its all that was left that wasn't insanely expensive. You should be thanking me for not squandering your tax $!
