The problem with whiskey is that there's just too much flavor in the way of getting loaded and starting a fight

It's a whiskey made to appeal to vodka drinkers:

Quote
You won't find rednecks in overalls or middle-aged men in tweed flat caps anywhere near a bottle of Kansas Clean Distilled Whiskey.  Nor will you see game birds, grandpas, old ships, or toffs in coattails on our label.  No, we left the bottle clear for good reason.  We want you to see the difference in Kansas even before you taste the difference.

Kansas is a new whiskey for new whiskey drinkers.  It's clean and light, with an astonishingly smooth and crisp finish.  You don't have to acquire years of whiskey experience to love it.  All you need is a glass, and the curiosity to try something different.

Indeed whiskey is far more exciting than the next trendy vodka.  And now there is one you can actually enjoy.  Neat, on the rocks, or in surprising variety of classic and contemporary cocktails.

The pictures of the people on the site are HILARIOUS.

Are you kidding? That's great! That's not people trying to make whiskey for vodka drinkers; that's people trying to sell moonshine to demographics beyond the rural poor.

Man, to think I'd spent all those years acquiring experience just to be able to choke down a glass of whiskey.

Goldman adds, “I wanted to get whiskey out of the middle-aged living room and onto the beach and into clubs, which is why Kansas is equally terrific on the rocks and in cocktails—and on any thumping dance floor.”

I want to see a spot where somebody orders a Jameson, then takes it out on the dance floor, and the agedness of the jameson makes all the people on the dance floor age hideously, Raiders-style, and the turntables slow down and jam, and the music lurch to a shuddering, decrepit halt.

A less-obvious problem with this product is that I associate "Kansas" less with "thumping dance floor" and more with "Dust In The Wind" and fundamentalist evangelicals.

Actually I once had a fundamentalist evangelical lecture me about the misguided spirituality of "Dust in the Wind." In Kansas.

(I am not making this up; it was at the first of my wife's family reunions that I attended)

One of my best college stories involves me shitfaced in a room full of sober people (including my stepbro and a girl we both wanted to bang), with my jacket hanging off of me because I was too drunk to get more than one arm in it, singing dust in the wind at the top of my lungs.

This cracked me up.

Re: the font, aren't we about due for a backlash against bolded, retro-modernist (I don't know really know to call it) sans typefaces? Don't get me wrong, I really like the look of them but damn if everyone ain't using them these days.

I just find it absolutely insane that they thought an explanation of their font selection was worthy of a tab on their website. Especially when they're at such pains to eliminate "image" from the equation.

God, that whole site is just too funny to hate on properly.

Though I don't know that I'd be able to stop myself from slapping that shit out of someone's hand if I saw them drinking it. That is unlikely to happen though, as I tend to drink in bars and not afterparties.

Drinking an Amrut Fusion right now, and it's really really splendid, although I haven't been drinking a lot of whisky lately, so I feel like I need to have a little mini-variety-tasting to refamiliarize myself before I can differentiate the Amrut's various layers of flavors.

At any rate, its biggest problem is that it was aged in wooden barrels, so it's sort of brownish-colored and has too many flavors.  I wish there was a distillery that knew how to eliminate those problems, so I could focus on more important things, like the shapes of bottles, and wearing Ed Hardy shirts.
