I am in a bunker, embedded deep behind the jesus firewall. I have brought a case of Two Brothers beer with me. My middle son has an unhealthy fascination with Linkin Park. I *think* I can make this case last the next day or so
bulleit is not my favorite, the important thing though is that you are drinking
i was feeling a little cheap while staring at the trader joe's whiskey selection. knob creek is my usual go to there, but $19.99 for bulleit seemed like a pretty ok way to go since i planned on mixing it anyway.
i like the flavor alright, but i can't say it's the smoothest bourbon.

I've been spoiled by decent whiskeys. Was reminded, rather jarringly, that E. Williams is not meant to be taken straight. Luckily, tMO had plenty left over from the Coca Cola cake she made earlier.

The Hansons are releasing a "craft" beer called MMM-Hop IPA
Not mentioned in the article is the planned 12-pack sampler, wherein this beer will be packaged with Cyndi Lauper's She-Hop, Rick Springfield's Hop 'Til You Drop, and the Ramones' Blitzkrieg Hop.

Antero I totally just stalked you via that FB ticker thing and wanted to say that I agree with both your assessments of Stone and Dogfish Head basically 100%. And your two pals are both right on about Three Floyds.
Also I just read literally the first sentence of that Washington Post piece and already got the eyes rollin--I don't know a single person who'd rep FFF as "the best brewery in the world."

* xpost from rap thread re: "dirty martinis" *
Pollo & Antero - do either of you know if there's any truth in this story about the martini being invented in Martinez, CA? Or is this boosterism?

The martini-as-we-know-it (i.e. dry vermouth and gin) definitely evolved from the martinez cocktail, which is the same sort of improved-cocktail-plus-sweet-vermouth model that one sees in a lot of old school Manhattan recipes and so forth. Whether or not the martinez was invented in Martinez, CA, however, is another question entirely. To be certain, the story in that link is absolute and total bullshit. The only really reasonable west coast origin story is a hotel bar in San Francisco, certainly not in Martinez itself. In some old books the names are apparently interchangeable.
Another logical source for the name, of course, is Martini & Rossi - the vermouth company.

i've been fighting off a bit of a cold the past couple days, so my drink of choice tonight is lemon/ginger/echinacea juice mixed with bulleit bourbon. it's damn tasty.
I want this tonight. Is that a commercially available juice?

Oh my god Calvados
(Menorval XO Tres Vieux)
[edit]:
Antero: This shit is delicious. I feel like I need to put my suit back on to drink it.
Friend: Then do it!
Antero: ...no, how about tweed.
Friend: Better and better!
I am now wearing tweed and drinking calvados.

1 dark and stormy
1 yards philly pale ale

i am not sure whether this is glorious or pathetic.

+2 beers. can barely walk, but bizarrely, writing formal prose without much hitch besides the recurring need to correct typing errors. there is a band setting up that sounds like Jet meets U2, this is bad.

Its cool to drink wine but the bad thing to do is to take a large shot of rum and then chase it with more wine. I was wearing a lot of makeup last might and now my eyes are stuck together

Ok maybe it's not that great if the wine you drink comes out of a box and you twist open a valve to get it in your glass like a water jug thing. Because then you treat the wine like water.

Some nights, you have two beers and feel sated and buzzed. Other nights, you have three homebrews, a glass of British mild, two shots of Bushmills, and an Old Fashioned and go to bed totally lucid, wake up spritely.
