If I value my labor at $0/hour, and count only the materials spent on a specific item, I am saving quite a lot. However, I am now a junkie and shop faster than I sew.

So for example:

Buttons: $4
Thread: $1
Fabric: $10
Interfacing: $1
Pattern: $4

So in one sense, this dress is $20, but in another sense, I didn't buy the exact amount of thread, fabric, etc. I needed for this. I bought this, and four other patterns, and loads of other stuff, and put in about ... 6 hours of labor? Maybe more? This particular dress had a lot of pressing and hand sewing. I guess it all depends on how you want to figure it.

Aww, Bernard. Those last two are precious. If I were to write an Allegory, she would play Adorable.

I think part of the greatness of making clothes for your kids is that even if it's not entirely cost-effective (given time investments), you will end up with a very unique wardrobe that is THE CUTEST IN THE WORLD and is the envy of all other parents.

Bill's mom is doing a craft show next week and didn't think she had enough stuff to fill her table and asked me if I could do 30 scarves for her. Doo dee doo, managed to dye 38 in the two weeks since, and I'm only going to pull a couple of them to overdye because I didn't like how they turned out.

Also I think I posted elsewhere but I talked to someone about selling them in a little shop/gallery in New Hope, but then I was unable to bring them to her the next couple of weekends. Thinking of stopping in tomorrow, since I have some set aside for her, too. I hope she remembers.

I need to get some business cards made. And to stop letting Future Anxiety build up.

I ended up finishing 36, so I gave 35 to Bill's mom and kept this one because I looooove it. There's a possibility the show won't happen? I don't know. Whatever.

also, from today:

No, but I don't mind if it does.. I took pictures under non-daylight lamps (the things aren't all the way finished), and the stuff on the volcano is orangier IRL.
