25 or so new signups since I turned it on last night, and all of them spammers as far as I can tell.

Do you think an invitation system would be acceptable here?

There also might be a signup mechanism plugin for the SMF software that provides a more robust defense against spammers than whatever it is we're currently using.

Hmm. Ok, so I put a question/answer system in place on the registration form. Since then, nothing. Anyone have a friend who has been meaning to register, who wants to test it for me? Since I re-opened registrations there has only been one or two that weren't obvious spammers (and they may be just non-obvious spammers).

Side note: It would be kind of nice if, when you're entering a password, there was a note that said it has to be mixed case and have both letters and numbers.

So it looks like the question/answer things stops the bots but lets in the legit users, at least for now, so I turned off the approval thing. Let's see how this goes. If we get spam and I don't see it, please let me know by email/twitter/smoke signals/etc.!

I kinda like that we're now this forgotten corner of the internet, with its peculiar set of old grudges, ad-hoc protocols, and half-forgotten, but dearly remembered departed friends. I'm not sure that an influx of  new members would even know what to do here, at this point

Do you guys remember about how mixed cats saved us from ourselves and reinvigorated those of us who were into creating things? And served as a sounding board/experience pot for Bernard's good clothes ideas? Possibly encouraging all them HT in fantastic outfits photos? There are wonderful people out there, and who knows...

Blucas you should go fight your brother and your dad or something and determine whose corner this is. When was this ever any kind of vibrant, remembered corner of the internet?
