Because most of it should be about how awesome
Rainforest EP
is.

I haven't heard that yet, but I have heard the new Jean Grae mixtape, and it's mostly pretty good. Well worth the free.

My favourite is
Attack of the Attacking Things
, although
Jeanius
is also good.
Jeanius
is more recent and longer, if those things matter.
But really the
new mixtape
is free and pretty good, so why not start there? Marzipan, bitches!

Hey so uh what's some hiphop i should listen to. I'd rather it not be anything that could imaginably be described as horrorcore

Just listened to it. Lil B fucked around and made a soul album, and it's fucking phenomenal.
"Game" and "I Hate Myself" are massive standouts, and "I Seen That Light" is a summer anthem.
Also a summer anthem: "Get It While Its Good"

Hey so uh what's some hiphop i should listen to. I'd rather it not be anything that could imaginably be described as horrorcore
If you haven't heard Madvillain's
Madvillainy
, it gets my highest recommendation of all hip-hop albums. It was released in 2004 and is being hampered as a to-be classic. The group consists of a rapper, MF DOOM, and producer, Madlib, and in my honest opinion they are top-3 in what they do (though they both dabble in each other's fields). It has some smokey organic beats hauled from Madlib legendary stacks of vinyls and DOOM's deep husky voice sprinkling them with wordplay and internal rhymes.
Here's
the first song I heard from the album and the one that piqued my interest. If you like, I'm sure the whole album will be pleasing to your ears.
If you already know this album and like it, I'd recommend J Dilla's instrumental hip-hop album
Donuts
and perhaps Oh No's
Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms
which were released on the same label, Stones Throw, around the same time. None of the albums mentioned could, in any way, be described as horrorcore.
(this is the kind of post i want when i ask for recommendations)

I mean I know things about hiphop; I do not need to listen to MF DOOM. I was just curious what's been going on recently. But thanks!

I'm sitting here trying to codify the Pitchfork line and can't myself make it very far past white liberal guilt and strategic ironic distancing. #3: dancepunk?

This makes me think of Stewart Lee's bit about
the values of the Car Phone Warehouse.

So Lil B just made the best quote-unquote-conscious-rap album since, uh, I guess 1999 or something.

On the less-socially-responsible end of things, Trouble's
December 17th
mixtape continues to be fantastic.

Lil B tweeted the iTunes link, and then immediately tweeted a mediafire link "CUZ I LOVE YOU IF YOU DONT HAVE 10 DOLLERS TO BUY MY NEW PROJECT HERE IT GOES FOR FREE"
The reaction to this album is going to be very, very interesting.
