I roasted 'em last night, then cooked them all in water to make a basic broth and render out the fat.
We boiled the turkey carcass down last night, though didn't roast first. Was about to strain the skin and bones out of the broth, but now I'm curious about this davygibbenes stuff.

i'm eating porkchops and garlic mashed potatos and gravy and green bean things.
which isn't THAT exciting, but i think i'm getting a better sense of how to buy groceries and make real meals that you can cook for one person without having to plan everything / buy fresh stuff, because sometimes I can't afford it.
also i would like to marry a tub of greek yogurt.
my mother was sort of freaked out by yogurt when i was growing up so i never really got to know it, and i thought plain yogurt was definitely going to be awful. but now i eat it with everything. cereal, yogurt, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, yogurt, quinoa, yogurt, butter chicken, yogurt, tacos, yogurt, wrap, yogurt, chicken wings, yogurt, pizza, yogurt.
there is no yogurt with this but i think porkchops and yogurt would definitely be good. ... yogurt and mashed potatos.
as a young woman who is lactose intolerant, i am excited with this yogurt discovery. maybe now i won't get ostoperoisis.

I love Greek yogurt. I bought a tub and dumped a bunch of honey into it and mashed it around with a spoon, and magically it turned into breakfast.

Will rep once again for making one's own Greek yogurt, which is hell of fun and results in massive quantities of the stuff!

Guys, I didn't try them, but last week I went to a tiny hut in the loop that serves Chinese food, is called "Eat & Drink" and had both curry hot dogs and hot dog fried rice on the menu.
I'm probably going back on Thursday.

Eat & Drink is pretty good for bad cheap Chinese food, the ingredients are all prepped beforehand but combined when you order them so they don't end up as steam table mush. I haven't been there in a while but I like the place. Never saw either of the items you mentioned on the menu back then though. Hot dog fried rice I can probably do without but I'm intrigued by curry hot dogs.

Also it's been a while since one of Kuma's Corner's specialty burgers really grabbed my attention but the description of the current one includes the phrase "tempura-fried stuffing" and unnnnnnnggghghhhghhhh new pants needed thanks

The currywurst place here (off of... 1st Ave. and 7th St? 2nd and 7th?) might actually be my new favorite place to eat, at least as far as "specialty" places go. Their gigantic hot soft pretzel is pretty awesome, too.

Hell yeah, that's the one. I think my favorite thing from there is actually the käsekrainer. One of those and one of their big fuckoff beers is satisfying TO THE MAX.

I thought I'd bring to your attention that the Käsekrainer is known as "Eitrige" (Eiter = pus) in Viennese dialect.
On a more appetising note, we cooked
chestnut-stuffed mushrooms
this weekend. It was really very delicious.

totally spamming this thread this morning but I just read that there is a newish vegan Thai place on the north side, not too far from Biggins & Lucy's & Almanzo's neighborhood, that is supposed to be really good (not just "good for vegan food") and that I'd totally be down for checking out if any of our veggie LPTJ peeps hit town sometime and we're looking for a food thing to do
edit: it's called
Urban Vegan
btw

Those chestnut-stuffed mushrooms sound delicious.
Also, thanks for the cool fact! It's gross, but cool!

So after butchering the duck for the Thanksgiving turducken, I had various bits of bone and fat and skin leftover. I roasted 'em last night, then cooked them all in water to make a basic broth and render out the fat. And just now, I salvaged as much skin as I could, and made duck gribbenes. Which turns out to be fucking STELLAR.
...and on the heels of this, made chicken gribenes last night, and oh my gracious I am officially a convert to this glorious food
