Jeni's Ice Cream is awesome—I was thinking when I saw your fb posts that that reminded me of their chevre cherry flavor actually. If their pints weren't so expensive (about $10 at my local Whole Foods), I'd buy it more.
Damn you, Whole Paychecks. At $10 it starts to be not only worth it to make your own ice cream, it starts to be crazy not to.

I have never in my life seen a $10 pint of ice cream. Holy shit.

Yeah, well that's even expensive by Whole Foods standards—I think the next most expensive there is about $6, and that's probably stuff like coconut ice "cream" and organic whatnot. Someone must be buying the $10 stuff though, since it gets restocked. I bought it once out of curiosity, and it was amazing, but obviously not enough for me to justify that again, despite my being tempted by some of their flavors and briefly considering it almost every time I walk by the case.

the base was loosely based on this:
http://www.saveur.com/article/Recipes/Jenis-Ice-Cream-Base
I think this base could be a little less sweet, though less sugar will make it freeze harder. the textures great but not perfect--I added a splash of brandy, maybe a bit more or that, or something with a little deeper flavor.
the color became even deeper and more cherry-like overnight.

Probably depends on where you are and how willing your local population is to buy stuff like that. The Whole Foods here doesn't carry nearly as many expensive, weird things as the ones I used to go to in Cambridge did, which makes sense. My wallet is grateful, though I miss the goats milk strawberry balsamic ice cream I used to get (which actually wasn't priced that badly, so if you see it ever, I highly recommend it).

We buy pints from a small ice cream shop that are $8.50. BUT THEY ARE DELICIOUS.

I wanted burgers and had an essay to write, so instead of going straight across the road to the nice burger store, I decided to make buns and patties from scratch, because pfft, what deadlines? They were pretty good, though.

Today for breakfast: French toast with port/brown sugar syrup and mole.
I've got some pretty cool friends.

I actually brought some bottles of my bourbon vanilla porter to Brooklyn last week but forgot about them in the car.

A couple weeks ago, I had this conversation with the ladyfriend:
C: Hey, I want to take you somewhere special for your birthday. Since I'm vegetarian, are there any places we usually don't go to together that you'd-
G: CHURRASCARIA
C: Oh, you've thought about this.
A few days later, she was chatting with a friend of hers:
C: So I think for Greg's birthday, I'd like to take him somewhere special.
C's friend: Oh, are you taking him to a churrascaria?
C: WHAT THE FUCK!
So tomorrow, we're going to Fogo de Chao in Philly! I'm super damn excited.

Great piles of meat! We did Fogo de Chao for my office holiday party a couple years ago and I enjoyed it, though my coworkers made fun of me for so many salad bar trips (there was some good charcuterie and a big old wheel of excellent parmesan there)

The only other time I've gone to one was a few years back, in Manchester. It was a grand old time, but I hear this place is supposed to be even more delicious. Oh my goodness gracious, I will be eating so much.

I just came back from my second stay in Brazil and somewhat miraculously, again, failed to eat in a churrascaria. I was too busy eating delicious things to really care at the time, but now you guys have me feeling a bit frustrated!

There are a couple of churrascarias in NYC, too!
This one
has the lunch for $40, which is still pricey, but not insane given that it's UNLIMITED GRILLED MEATS for the duration of the mealtime.
EDIT: xpost to jm, not trying to make edison feel bad

I'm not feeling that bad, to be honest, being probably a bit less of a meat enthusiast than you. By far my favorite food-related thing in Brazil (and their absence round these parts does hurt!) are the kilo lunch restaurants, where you have a choice of, depending on the place, between ten and thirty different hot dishes and often a fairly large selection of entrees and desserts - you take what you want and you pay per kilo. They are generally delicious and crazily inexpensive compared to normal restaurants (a good one will often cost about $15 per kilo) and I wish the concept would exist here and I miss them already. Of course I was made fun of for most of the trip because I can never resist trying out as many things as possible in those places and generally ended up eating 600/800g. The closest approximation of that I ever saw was actually inside a supermarket in NYC! But the food was a little less great, though still pretty good.
edit: the churrascaria concept also exists with pizza, too - provided the pizza's good enough, now that's something I would really be crazy about, but have also yet to try out any of these places

There's a good pizza-by-weight place right next to where I work, but the prices are considerably higher than any per-slice place. Which kind of kills the idea.

Whole Foods actually has a surprisingly good food-by-weight buffet! Was that the supermarket you were at?
