Has somebody already posted this link?  There's a lot of stuff here that I would never have thought of that sounds fucking awesome (incl. Ham Sandwich Bomb)

I would like something breaded and deep-fried, covered in some kind of unhealthy fatty sauce, preferably cheese-based. I would like it in front of my face, nowish.

You know what that reminds me of? A Monte Cristo sandwhich- deep fried ham and cheese sandwich with powdered sugar on it that you dip into strawberry jam.

Most of the Monte Cristos I've had haven't been deep fried (to my disappointment), just grilled.

Speaking of pan-fried sandwiches, I was thinking about FishAmaJigs from Friendly's earlier today, and I would kill for one of those right now.

I made some more croutons and killed off my pea soup. Why do people eat bread when you can make croutons?

because you can't make a pbj out of croutons? Maybe really little ones, but after 2 crouton pbj's I would get bored. You could make croutons out of whole slices of bread but that is just toast.

who was asking about chilli? there's a pot on the stove now it'd be a shame not to share instructions for. i've located a great, basic recipe that can be altered in a million ways with minor adjustments: first take 250 ml dry red kidney beans, wash and drain, add to 750 ml boiled water and boil about 5 min. turn off heat and let soak 4 hour or overnight. cook in same water until tender, drain. now brown 500 ml organic ground beef and 250 ml ground pork (from a small farm, or don't bother. commercial pork might be higher in bacteria then any other food so beware!). add 3 chopped onions and 50 ml celery, chopped, and brown. add cooked beans, a can of tomatoes, a couple big pinches of salt and a tbsp chili powder, plus enough cayenne for a nice bite; cover and simmer for an hour and half. serve with extra cayenne for those who like it hot.

my freezer is full of chili.  i dunno what i'd do without it.

this is the recipe my mother sent me years ago.

Quote
lean ground beef
chopped onion
2tbs chilli powder
2tbs cumin\
1 tbs garlic podwe
1 envelop old el paso chilli mix. you know the yellow envelpo
sprink;e cayenne
tin mushrooms pieces
cook beef with chopped onion then add spices and tin mushrooms + fluid from mush
add tin chopped tomato
tin kidney beans
add water or some tomato juice 1cup ? til it looks right - whatever ya got
1/2 chopped green pepper
Voila

i make it with a million tinned whole mushrooms because i fucking love tin mushrooms.  i've never had chili like ours before though so i think it isn't "real" chili.

also, my mother's last facebook message to me is TELL ME HOW TO EMAIL YOU MONEY.  she's a good mother.

yes! i have dried ones. i used one (one!) in a curry and it was reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally intense. i like to sweat when i eat spicy, and even then it was a little intense. chili sounds great for it.

cbs, i prefer "el picoso"

Nice! My roommate, who is slightly crazier than me, buys fresh ones sometimes and every once in awhile will dice one and throw it on a pizza or something. We also infused some whiskey with them and that shit is crazy hot, but good, and lingers surprisingly briefly. Sauteing one of those babies will clear your sinuses right up.

Cooked up some pinto beans with a lil brown sugar and plenty of salt and they are DELICIOUS.

Edit: Albeit drier than when my dad used to make them like this. He used bacon. I don't.

Oddly enough, the only place we've found them is at Hy-Vee, and only one of the many Hy-Vees in this city carries them.

That whiskey mixed with apple cider is really something.

Had delicious Ethiopian last night. I need to stop ordering the big combination platters, or at least asking what each little spiced, delectable pile of wat or veggies is called, because the only thing I know the name of is the injera.
