Aight. Aliststarr. Did the following:

Beat Priscilla crossbreed in the painted world. She was mean and beautiful.
Killed smaugh and draugh.
Beat pinwheel.
Beat sif the wolf.
Beat the scaleless sleeth.

I can't help but feeling like I've killed the mythology of this world. I think this might be the greatest game ever made. If you don't play video and computer games, this game is "art" of the highest order, a brooding fantastic world of darkness that, though it's not out yet' skyrim isn't fit to ring its doorbell. Nothing is like this game, but dark souls, and that's a different experience. This is the best game ever made, simply. I don't think that I overstating it. You'll know if you ever play it.

Just wanna talk about the gravelord thing. so, i'm in the catacombs. there are bearded necromancers with green beards and they are casting spells. skeletons rise, and i am bashing them apart. i go into a room with niche graves in it, slotted into the wall and the floor gives in. i fall down, down.

i end up in a dark hall of big tombs. something large and shadowy waits at the end. it's a demon. before i get to it, there's a coffin that juts out. here it is. i heard about this. i have 'eyes of death' and i clutch them to me and i crawl into the coffin. 30 seconds pass.
the coffin lid shuts on me.
i am transported to the lord of the dead and i join his covenant. i get the gravelord sword. in my human form i can use the eyes of death to curse the games of other people. the creatures in their worlds become twisted shadows of immense difficulty and the only thing they can do is find where i've hidden the eyes of death and climb through them into my world and then try to find me and kill me. if i succeed, and they die, i get an extra set of the exceedingly rare eyes of death.

I started a new character the other night and poodled around a bit in Undead Burg before realising that from where I was standing I was actually looking down into Capra's lair and I could see people's messages of success/advice/despair smouldering into existence on the floor down there. I mosied along some more, just finding vantage points and seeing which different areas I could see into. The world is just astonishing - it's so intricate and real-feeling, and everything fits with the overall feeling, and everything tells you the same true stories about what you are and what the world is. I agree with you about this being next level art, is I guess what I'm trying to say.

When you fight Sif, I can't remember any kind of narrative or explanation or whatever, but when you get there and you look around his pad and see all the signs of something having been there and then he appears and he is totally ridiculous and you have to take him down, you know once it's done that there's not going to be another great wolf in that forest, ever.

The ending is a bit of a letdown (and disappointingly doesn't really make any sense compared to the genius of Demon's Souls' transition into new game +), but whatever.

scoregasm, fate of the world, nightsky and time gentlemen please, for what was about £1.60 and is now about £2.50. I remember wanting to play scoregasm and thinking "nah, I don't need another shmup in my life", and I remember thinking fate of the world looked like something I'd spend twenty minutes fiddling with before giving up, so that's that.

Also on the subject of shmups, I spent ages the other night playing Jamestown which I haven't touched since the week I got it. Turns out I hadn't previously understood the game system properly, and it's even better than I thought it was - very often I get frustrated a few hours into a game like this because the scoring mechanic feels somehow unsatisfying, but now I feel like I understand this one I actually think it might be one of the best I've played. Leaving aside the scoring system the game itself is a fun shmup with crazy setting and old school stylings, with the options to use different ship types and play levels separately if you want (so you don't always have to burn through stage 1 before getting to the bit you're stuck on, though there is a "the whole game from the start" mode as well).

And while I'm here I may as well mention again that Dark Souls is amazing.

I'm angry at dark souls currently because I don't feel quite ready for the fiery abyss, but the tomb of giants is horrible to get to, and then getting killed by a skeleton before the bonfire. Maddening.
