Yes, but not for all games. But if I wanted some games for a Mac then that's probably where I would look.
Apparentlyt Frozen Synapse works on Mac. It's not really anything like Civ, but it's pretty sweet.
The Steam selection for Mac isn't a whole lot more inspiring than the Mac App Store unfortunately. But I haven't really looked around at it lately

maybe try hearts of iron 3 or europa universalis 3
This is good thinking...shit I should probably toss a bunch of the earlier Paradox games on my netbook

i was hoping either kings bounty, galactic civ 2 or sword of the stars had mac ports, those are solid choices too. but none of them appear to have mac versions sadly.

Second.
You should do Crusader Kings, they're coming out with a new one soon. Make lots of bad child-rearing decisions concerning your bastard son! Go to war to forcibly convert Old Prussian pagans to the true religion! Crush your rebellious vassals, and give their lands to your clubfooted, drooling third cousin!

I know it's rude to talk about stuff that other people can't necessarily have, but I think Xenoblade Chronicles might be really good. The monster-huntin' and spoils-collectin' and generally runnin' around in fields is all good so far, at least, and the characters are pretty charming. Will post again when I have seen some story.
The graphics are appalling, low-res textures, jaggy edges and might-as-well-be-static faces, but then the areas seem pretty massive and fairly well populated and the design itself is often really nice - especially the big open areas of greenery and rockfaces.
All of which said, the last JRPG I played was FFIV on GBA and I made it about half an hour in before giving up. And the first JRPG I played was... FFIV on GBA. So I'm not the most authoritative commentator on these things. I do like the fighting system so far though - seems like it gives you a few different things to think about.

Kriegspiel looks neat - I like the arsenal/relay mechanic and the design. I'd definitely be up for playing that sometime!

I'll download it this evening. How does the online play work? Some kind of lobby or direct connect thing?

Deadly Premonition directory SWERY 65 has revealed that he has plans for a sequel and prequel, as well as a special edition re-release of the original cult comedy-horror.
The special edition would feature enhanced graphics, answering criticism that the original looked fairly hideous. As for the brand new games, the eccentric developer did not confirm that they were in development right now, but he certainly seems like he's got it all mapped out.
He's also confirmed that Western publishers are very interested in an all-new IP that he's working on, so it would appear that SWERY is becoming quite popular on his side of the industry. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Yeah, as I recall there's a lobby, but the player base is so small that you really only get a game together if you're corresponding in a back channel.

I play it on the XBOX! The one true console!
I do have a PS3, but I don't have an arcade stick for it.
I'm really liking 3SOE - it kind of looks how my memory tells me 3S looks, if you know what I mean. I think they did a great job of just tidying it up for higher-resolution screens without hurting the art at all. Far, far better than SSF2THDR's "remix" approach, for my money.
I don't think I like the game itself as much as I like SF4 but then I have played probably a dozen hours of 3S before today, so I'm not really in a position to make a fair comparison. It's definitely a lot of fun, anyway. And guessing you need to parry, actually executing the parry correctly and then punishing with something is among the more satisfying experiences I've had with videogames. Such a shame that it's only happened maybe twice for me so far!

I played a couple minutes of that Frozen Synapse tutorial. Granted, I was drunk, but it seemed realllly fiidly.

alistarr* we need to get some Halo happening again. Last night I hopped on the Multi-team and got paired up with a couple of crazy mountain dudes from Tennessee. A delirious blur of Rocket Hog Race, Crazy King, 3-Ball and other bizarro gametypes ensued.

I've been messing with it a bit after you tweeted the link the other day. You should definitely do one or two of the missions after finishing the tutorial, it's worth playing through the trial at least, though I don't see myself getting the full game based on the trial. It's interesting.

I don't know anything about it, other than it apparently has a board game-like simultaneous action selection mechanic and dudes at Boardgamegeek were calling it the bastard child of Robo Rally and Space Hulk.

The only thing I found particularly fiddly about it once I got going was that you kind of have to zoom in a bit on the dude to whom you're going to issue commands, then zoom out again to see the whole play area again before zooming in on the next dude to give him some commands, etc. Otherwise the icons around the dudes were just too small and close together to press reliably.
I don't really like playing games on my PC but I think I've put a dozen or so hours into it and I've really enjoyed it. It's a really interesting kind of puzzle in that you have to anticipate your opponents moves because you're playing your turns simultaneously (you know what I mean).

Also, I am now
loving
Xenoblade Chronicles. I've played about 8 hours and it's just great fun. Also, the world creation myth is just ridiculously badass - you live on the body of one of two enormous gods who killed each other in battle - and then quite early on you get a look out at the horizon and you can actually
see
the other god's body looming hugely in the background, and at night its eyes glow red. It's awesome.
Also, I suck at SF3:3s.
