If I look very closely at the exact right spot I can see a wee little bicep just peeking its head(s) above the soil.

Yay! I can only see mine when they're flexed on account of the flab, but they're pretty solid, so yay for that also.

Moving up a notch in weights for most exercises. Making tiny dietary changes. Lost a weensy bit of weight. Progress!

way to go bernard! That must feel so great!

My friend wants to start juice fasting with me for short periods every few weeks and incorporating juices and raw food into our diets. I also think I'll be set to start biking and yoga-ing and exercising again in general next week. My massage and chiro treatments are making everything feel a lot better and I don't feel as fragile as I have for the past 3 weeks since my accident. I don't think I'll run again for a while though because my knee is messed up- nothing serious.

Thank you, peacocks! I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. No harm giving your knee a little time off from running while you rebuild.

I now have biceps only 1 inch smaller than Aaron's. I think I may have some talent as a weightlifter, who knew? Maybe I can pursue it more seriously next year.

Cool! I walked my feet off today. I was wearing Docs, but they're still really sore.

Are your Docs usually comfortable for long walks? Mine are better than lots of other boots, but they're still not as good as a good pair of sneakers. I still regret letting people talk me out of buying two pairs of my favorite running shoes. I've never found a comfier pair before or since.

They're great. I mean if I go on a multi-day bushwalk, I'll get blisters no matter what I wear, but for all day walking around town stuff, yeah. I can't go past them. They're the greasy type, so nice and soft. My other default 'walking around' shoes are these (arachnophobes beware) click on "Classic" and they're at the top of the page. Or these Merrell's

I don't own any sneakers, as it turns out, and I haven't for about 20 years. I feel like if I started wearing them now, they'd hurt my feet.

Because they wouldn't provide enough support?

Or too much of the wrong kind - too much in the footbed, and not enough in the ankle, I think. I mean, the Redbacks and the Merrell's both have some contour stuff going on, but not so that it pushes my arch unnaturally, which is my experience with sneakers from 20 years ago.

Starting to worry that I might buy a power cage for my apartment, since finding a dude selling them for cheap on eBay.  This could be a dangerous road to go down.

Over the summer, I started running 5k every morning. It's awesome. Here's the thing: I live in fucking Grand Rapids, Michigan. Soon there will be far too much snow for this to be viable. I kickbox and do yoga every day as well, but the 5k is the cornerstone of my cardio. What do? I don't want to join a gym, I know from experience that I just won't end up going.

Hadn't considered the stairs thing. Lots of high-rise parking garages near one of my jobs.

I usually just run on the shoveled sidewalks in winter, going into the streets where the sidewalks are unshoveled.  Although a couple winters ago, when I effed up my leg, I joined a real shitty gym and took to the exercise bikes instead.

hit up a friend in a high rise to run up and down the stairs.

My DC friend and I were doing this at his apartment building in Rosslyn--a dude suddenly entered the stairwell as I was rounding a landing, I collided with him and received the most amazing cuss-out of my life.

oh gosh, that p90x guy makes me want to put an arrow through the screen. between being startled by security while dashing up and down the stairs (almost toppling to my death, but not really) and putting up with that annoying workout host, if my rear end hadn't improved so dramatically in the past week that i barely recognize it as my own it'd be impossible for me to rep for the effort. however, it's amazing how high my caboose is sitting now! security guard who almost killed me: forgiven, dork extraordinaire a la p90x: forgiven. i'm amazed.

The winter is still scaring me. I finally got myself down to 150 lbs. I'm 6'1, I haven't been below 170 since I was 14. I don't want to lose it, but my new schedule has made it tough to dedicate more than 45 minutes a day, which means yoga and muay thai only. That sucks. I've accepted 15 lbs of winter weight, but that hurts.
