Yeah, they're really quick, especially considering they toured so extensively on the last one and got involved with lots of other stuff. There's more touring to come, too, apparently!

I once tried listening to some Deerhoof. It was mid-morning and I thought I was the only one in the house. So I play most of one of their albums pretty loudly--either Apple O' or Milkman, I can't remember for sure which--and then my brother walks out of his bedroom all bleary-eyed, and looks at me and says, "Let's just have an agreement that we don't crank screamo in the morning." Oops. Anyway, I couldn't stand the music and never sampled them again.

In other news:

HISS GOLDEN MESSENGER PLAYS ELEPHANT MICAH PLAYS HISS GOLDEN MESSENGER

This fall, I’m teaming up with my esteemed colleague-in-song Mike Taylor (Hiss Golden Messenger) to release a split 7”.  This limited edition single sees us swap a couple songs: I do “Balthazar’s Song,” from the HGM album Poor Moon, and Mike and company do “My Cousin’s King,” from the EM album Louder Than Thou.  The release is brought to you by North Carolina’s Paradise of Bachelors, home of Poor Moon and outlet for a series of outstanding regionally-focused reissues.  PoB is offering the HGM/EM 7” for preorder on their website starting today

I'd never before heard of the record label Paradise of Bachelors, but that's where you can find this. I just pre-ordered a copy. It's $11 altogether, $6 for the 7" and $5 for shipping, at least to where I live.

I lreally like Deerhoof, but I wish they were my favourite band, because they put out so much stuff, and it's always consistent.

edit: Time to revisit my Deerhoof supermix, always a big hit here at Ink Mansions.

You're frustrated by the slow release rate of your favourite Dutchman, aren't you?

50 Foot Wave have put their entire back catalogue up as a 1.3GB pay-what-you-like/free download. There's a new EP in there too, 'With Love From The Men's Room'. There's also going to be a new Throwing Muses record soon. It was funded by fans of the band, and will contain over 30 new songs.

New Dalglish album coming out too - last year's Benacah Drann Deachd was one of my favourites.

Thanks for the 50 Foot Wave heads up! With Love From the Men's Room is also a great title for an EP.

Yeah, I got it in the mail on Saturday. It comes with a lyric sheet that's like, fifteen lines long for the entire thing. It's crazy!

Kane Ikin - Sublunar (12K)

Kane Ikin, of Aussie dark droners Solo Andata, put out a subtle but ear-catching ep earlier in the year (Contrail), as well as a collaboration LP with David Wenngrenn of Library Tapes, but this is his first full length, and it's sounding fantastic. Exactly where this kind of music scene needs to be heading right now.

just in time for the DNC, my band has recorded our song about the health care bill.

it's from like a year ago but the download is free (like health care should be!).

give me health care (or give me death)

Oh man. I saw someone mention Vol 2 somewhere on the web this week but no further info was supplied and I didn't see anything on the Pan website so I assumed it was piss in the wind. God damn I want that thing yesterday.

Tim Hecker & Daniel Lopatin - Uptown Psychedelia

Out November

It will be interesting to see how this sounds. Tim Hecker is pretty unstoppable but I've never been that convinced by the Oneohtrix Point Never thing.
