Throwing Yojimbo a fishbone.

An old boss who now works at KQED doing techie stuff just posted this to FB with the comment,

Fishbone singing about weed-bearing cigarettes in the KQED lobby!

Maybe for obsessive Fugazi fans. 1 hour 40 minute question and answer talk with Ian Mckaye.

Darryl "DMC" McDaniels talking about how Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" saved him from committing suicide:

This is the first verse of "Salt Lake City", a song about the capital of Utah, by the Beach Boys.

I have that album!

I'm seeing a theatrical production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch tonight. I've never seen the movie.

Big Day Out 2007 at 1pm vs 2012 Big Day Out at 1pm

This will be the last BDO (pretty much the Australian/NZ version of Lollapalooza). Not surprising considering I went to the first one when I was 17 and Soundgarden were one of the headliners. This year? Soundgarden.

Im pretty sure that if you had tried to convince 17 year old killdozersnakeboy in 1994 to go to a festival where the main act had it's peak in 1975 I would've declined as well.

That is fantastic, Nick, thanks for posting!

I don't think I've heard "Olcatsurgra", and it doesn't seem to be on youtube, does it have an alternate name I might be able to find it under?

edit: Ha, found it! It was misspelled pretty badly on youtube.

Grace is very clever. Adorable too but I know that Ian, who'll be 5 shortly, could not write that stuff out. Or maybe he could, I know he's really good at math for his age but I don't think he's quite that good with letters yet. Anyway, that is fantastic

She couldn't write at all before she was 5, but she's 6 in May and her confidence with it has just rocketed in the last 3 or 4 months.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. It does make me giggle seeing some of those Cure songs written like that. She's since asked me to dictate some more, and we've had things like 'Ur Forist' and 'Lick Cocktooz'

Watching Gimme Shelter for the first time. I think I waited so long because I feel like I've heard the story a thousand times. Hadn't realized that the song the Jefferson Airplane is playing when the Hell's Angels first start going aggro and the JA stops their set and calls them out is a cover of "Other Side of this Life" by Fred Neil, the recluse musician and dolphin advocate who spent the last years of his life alone on some island in the Florida keys. The lyrics are all about wanting to just drop everything & cut off all contact with the human race. Kind of a weird choice for a massive free music festival, but hey, great song.

I HAVE A QUESTION.
I am listening to that No Alternative compilation that came out in 1993. I have not listened to it since I had it on tape in like 2002 and am feeling a lot of feelings. My question is as follows:
Is the line "please don't procrastinate or I will have to masturbate" in the original version of Sexual Healing or just the Soul Asylum cover?

SOUL ASYLUM, YOU GUYS

Do I not have an enquiring mind?! Do I wander unquestioningly through my life, taking everything I see and hear at face value?! Am I a moron!? I fear the answers to these questions must, respectively and emphatically, be 'no', 'yes' and 'yes'! How else to explain the fact that I have spent 27 years thinking the lyrics are the frankly nonsensical We missed! You hissed! The lovecats! and it took an 8 year-old to point out to me this morning that it is, of course, "We missed you!" hissed the lovecats.  Shocked

TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS

Also, am I the last person in the civilized world to realise that it's let's go and throw all the songs we know into the sea ?!!?

I mean really, damn you Robert Smith! Outwitted by enjambment once again.  Mad
