Naxos does a tremendous public service. Aside from the aforementioned discount pricing of quality recordings, they showcase an amazing variety of relatively unknown (to the recording world anyway) orchestras, composers and performers. Also I could sit here and list about two dozen instances where a Naxos recording of a particular work outclasses a Sony, EMI or DG recording of the same piece by a "name" orchestra/conductor.

Anyway there are hell of Naxos recordings of Satie piano stuff, and I'm sure a lot of it is on Spotify, so look around there!

So I gather there's no particularly special set of songs of Satie's that stand above others. And I'm guessing that to someone like me, who doesn't listen to much classical music, the particular recording or musician isn't going to matter much. I'll just grab whatever comes up first on a Soulseek search, probably some collection of his early works since Coldforge likes those best.

Oh, no, there's clearly classic Satie (the Gymnopédies, the Gnossiemes) it's just that if there is a stand-out recording of his work, I don't what it is it, and I certainly don't own it. Anyway, his pieces are as a rule very short, and a single CD can contain almost everything of note he ever wrote.

was going to read only, but this is something i can get down on. i REALLY like the 1971 Piano Works with pianist Daniel Varsano. much of this blew my mind the first time i heard it, and i was literally just playing the thing on repeat for 3 days.

one of the best sets i've played and hardly anyone was there because there were two shows happening at adjacent bars and the toilet in the bar we were in exploded halfway through my set and everything smelled like shit. still had a great time.
