I ain't at work today and am marathoning the first season of Downton Abbey on Netflix streaming. I love when I am absolutely the last person on earth to discover that something is good!

Man this Alcatraz show sounds half-baked and silly. How many more attempts to recapture the "Lost magic" (LOL) is TV gonna throw at us?

Game of Thrones, right?

Actually, scratch that, it's 3 after GoT and Awkward. I get confused when we started talking calendar year instead of seasons.

It goes 1) Game of Thrones 2) Awkward 3) Homeland 4) The Nine Lives of Chloe King

The drop-off between 3 and 4 should tell you something about new shows this year
I watched ep1 of chloe king last night goin to bed.

Sherlock Holmes is relocating from 221B Baker St. to an as-yet-undisclosed address in New York City. CBS has greenlighted two new pilots, with one of them being a revamp that will place the legendary sleuth in modern-day New York.

The pilot, currently titled "Elementary," comes via CBS Television Studios and Timberman-Beverly Productions, the company behind the network's current series "A Gifted Man" and "Unforgettable." Robert Doherty, whose credits include "Medium" and "Ringer" will write the pilot and executive-produce. Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly will also executive-produce.

The other pilot, "Baby Big Shot," will also be set in New York, and is described as following "[a] working-class woman who uses her street smarts to compete with her more polished colleagues at a Manhattan law firm."

listen Nero Wolfe was the American Sherlock Holmes, complete with our customary sedentary lifestyle and resultant obesity, there is no good reason to do an American Sherlock Holmes

I'd vote Columbo for American SH but I've never seen Nero Wolfe

As for the CBS thing, calling it now: Adam Brody as Sherlock. In a twist, Watson will be an attractive female, converting their vaguely homoerotic relationship into a Castle-style heteronormative sexual tension that's more palatable for the types of people who watch CBS.

OK I guess this is the TV thread but Nero Wolfe didn't start out as a TV character any more than Sherlock Holmes did dogg

Nero Wolfe was like Serbian and shit and he was fat because he hired a French chef to prepare all his meals.

I guess in the way that Sherlock Holmes was about this one dude and his buddy rectifying the problems caused by imperialism, Nero Wolfe is an immigrant who invigorates the American economy by being rich and resolving corruption caused by rich people and other immigrants.

I'm just making stuff up

It's so cute how you guys over there get excited by our shows that nobody ever watches like Torchwood, Sherlock, Downton Abbey and Cheers.

Forgot House of Cards, best political drama series in the game.

(Cheers?)

You should know I don't actually digest any UK pop culture dogg.* But apparently the girl from this infuriating match.com ad was in an episode and I really want to know who she is

*apart from anything involving Chris Morris, Shane Meadows or Steve Coogan.

Gotta admit that dogg is pretty funny dogg but the constant cackling and goading from that Gervais dogg just ruins the whole thing for me dogg.

Man, speaking about Gervais (whose cackling I find such an unadulterated expression of simple, brutal joy that it's probably my favorite thing about him), I recently subjected myself to the entire first series of Life's Too Short recently, and that thing is abysmal. I think I laughed maybe once or twice in seven episodes. I love the guy, but this is probably the most shamefully self-plagiaristic endeavour I've seen by anyone. About 80% of Extras rehashing and 20% of the Office.

Otherwise, I'm 18 episodes into the second season of the West Wing, trying to decide whether I love Toby or C.J. the most.

Chet did you say something bad about Cheers?!

You know what really bugs me? Ted Danson was nominated for 11 consecutive Emmys, and he only won two. You know how come?

Cuz John Larroquette won 4 in a row for fucking Night Court. That's the kind of thing that can push a person over the edge.

Argh I'm gonna watch Cheers and write a letter to Shelley Long.

You crazy?! EVERYONE in the uk watched sherlock and downton. They've been the major topic of conversation for radio 2 presenters for the past year.
My girlfriend used to like torchwood, then that last series that got made by some american production company was so ridiculous she got fed up with me laughing at it. Dude that played casper's dad made a good peado though.
