Man, this was close to being pretty ok. But not.

Ahahaha this was directed by David Bowie's offspring. Just like Moon.

man, I love Moon.

Yes! Moon was fantastic!

Also I feel similarly re: Antichrist. I once prided myself on watching difficult or disturbing films, but, seriously, what am I going to get from that film? What about it will enrich my life or my understanding of human relationships?

L & I watched Lars Von Trier's Antichrist this weekend.

What the fuck, man.

I dunno, I thought it was a pretty great movie and wasn't really "disturbing" or anything. I love how it perfectly captured that primordial, childlike fear of THE WOODS and DARKNESS, and that nature is essentially out to end your life. That goes right to the lizard brain in a way that horror movies never quite do. As an effeminate city dweller, I always feel that the second I get outside of urbanity I'm going to be killed, that nature is indeed Satan's church.

Also, that opening B&W montage is among the most beautifully shot film I've ever seen!

I saw the original japanese version of Pulse last night. It's a ghost/horror story about a guy who gets sucked into the internet. This movie was made in the 90's so the internet had just come out and people were putting in aol-like discs and dialing up all over the place. Then you find out that the afterlife is full and all the ghosts have to overflow into somewhere and they choose to do it through technology. It's pretty cool and goes from "oops creepy stuff be happenin" to apocalyptic with little explanation, but you get it. The ghosts eat people, or make them kill themselves so they can be immortal in their loneliness forever, or something. Very creepy! I was scared, but I tend to get sucked into movies easily (har har). I'm glad I had friends there to make dumb jokes with.

The best part was when one of the main characters goes to a computer science lab at the university and asks someone "can the internet... dial you?" and then later he can't figure out how to bookmark a website and he has to write down directions on how to "print screen." Pretty great.

I think I was 12 when I was first introduced to the interent by my dad who was crazy about it and wanted to make me my own webpage and was always printing out pages and pages of astrology readings for friends and family.

I don't know if it's on netflix, my friend who is really into scary and disturbing movies had it on dvd. One night he had us watch Sweet Movie, which is the worst thing and I think about it almost every day. Salad girl, pooping on plates, &c.

haha, I kind of love Sweet Movie!

Everything up until the pooping on little plates was bearable. Except for the guys who were puking on each other. To be fair, I was eating a sandwich when the pooping and puking happened. My summary of the movie goes something like "this one girl has a really bad day, ends up in a basket of salad."

I have a thing about mouths and liquids coming out of them. Makes my stomach turn. I usually dub it "bleeding from the mouth." It's a blanket statement where "bleeding" could mean any number of fluids. If it is coming out of a mouth I don't want it.

just after the Texan millionaire guy whips out his gold-tipped cock and takes a piss all over the female lead.

John Vernon! It was a stunt cock, but still, I'm surprised that the infamous Dean Wormer's very-golden shower isn't used as a selling point for the film. Who wouldn't want to see that?

I thought that the scene where the guy has a cow tongue in his pants, whips it out, and starts chopping it up in front of salad girl was more disturbing than the literally golden shower part.

Saw The Descendants this afternoon. I don't know why this movie even exists. Just painfully average in every way.

But hey, there's a new Chantal Akerman film to make up for it this weekend, it seems!

ah, yeah descendants didn't look very good.

I had no idea about the Akerman though. from the trailer it looks very watery. Let us know how it is!

Should I go see jurassic park, the lost world tonight? it's free.

The Lost World is kind of terrible and all, but you should definitely see it if it's free. Regular Jurassic Park has been my go-to "MUST WATCH WHEN IT IS ON TV" movie of 2011 and I watched it five or six times one week.

I liked Essential Killing. It helps that Vincent Gallo doesn't have to talk: I like Gallo, but I like him more when he just has to run and jump and cry and look wild. The film makes snow-bound places the most claustrophobic and scary thing. Does anyone know if that film of Skolimowski's called Deep End has a dvd release? I've never seen, and after Essential Killing and Four Nights with Anna I think I hestiantly like dude's hella uncomfortable films enough to be pretty curious.

I'm pretty sure Deep End got a DVD release shortly after its recent theatrical re-release. It's excellent and well worth seeking out! Same goes for Le Départ, starring Jesus aka Jean-Pierre Léaud.
