Well, a grown adult only threw water out of a third story window onto anti-Walmart protesters twice today (that I know of).

Dude what

Call me old-fashioned, but I could have done without graphic photographs of his battered and bloody corpse on the homepage of the BBC News and Guardian websites.

Seriously.  I'm trying to eat lunch and this bar's got cnn on and they're rolling around his bloody corpse for like ten minutes

I dislike murder and US military intervention even when they don't ruin a specific day's lunch!

This went pretty well as far as interventionism goes though.

Anyhow, glad that guy is gone.

Yeah, I've totally been avoiding the news for that reason, but it did mean that I missed all the Occupy Melbourne shit-fight footage. Fuck a Melbourne cop (and the horse he rode in on).

How's this for a pick-me-up:

Yay!

Well, a grown adult only threw water out of a third story window onto anti-Walmart protesters twice today (that I know of).

Dude what

Ugh. Walmart has offices in my building. There were OWS-offshoot protesters there right around the time I was leaving. I stuck around for a while kind of feeling shitty because I hate hate hate Walmart but didn't exactly feel like labeling myself a shit-disturber in front of the rest of my company (roughly 500ish employees). At a couple of points, a lady leaned out the window and shouted things at the protesters, and later chucked a couple of buckets of water at them (before putting a sign in the window that said GET A JOB). More than anything, it made me wonder what exactly one does for work where it seems like a good or mature idea to toss water at people. Also, based on the window the lady was in, I don't think she was even a Walmart employee. I've long held that a lot of the people who work in my building are insufferable upper-class twits, but this was too fucking much.

xpost from Gilt Plane to Style:

Watch chain might also equal railroad baron, though.

Yep, and especially true in San Francisco, home to the original Big Four - Stanford, Crocker, Hopkins, and Huntington.

Jay "I can hire one-half of the working class to kill the other half" Gould got the drop on your soft twee Cali barons. EAST COAST

No doubt, but it's curious how the railroad Big Four prefigure the finance Big Four of right now: Chase, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, and BofA. The metaphor of The Octopus has been used for both.

If BOA goes down with an extra 55 trill on the books, there's no fuckin way the FDIC can insure all of those deposits...  I'm switching to Charles Schwab
