Also, you know how many rappers before Jeezy have made the white girl=cocaine joke?  All of them

Also, I think I lived in some of the hoodiest parts of fort myers and while my roommate did get a gun held to his head for $10 once and a guy got shot on our street and stumbled up to our front porch bleeding out of his stomach the night before I graduated I wouldn't call it "lil pakistan."

Lil Pakistan?  Maybe it's a reference to the comparatively large South Asian community?  Maybe all these dudes go to Masjid Ibrahim on Broadway.  I mean I frequently make fun of people for thinking there are actually dangerous parts of Houston, but shit.  At least Houston has good rap.

Peacocks if you went into that Office Depot in Page Field Commons in the winter-summer of 2007, I was working there!  I was probably yelling at people and throwing things off of ladders!  Have we gone over this before?

I don't think I was aware that you ever lived there! I know where that office depot is but I don't think I ever had cause to go there. BUT I lived on Victoria, Hoople, Dora, and 1st street which is really close. And I moved to o-town in june 2008 so we definitely overlapped. Dang.

This is actually pretty swag right here.  Got a bit of Jamaican flavor in the vocal but it doesn't sound like fake patois or anything.  Good delivery, good beat for his voice.

The "Welcome To My Hood" remix is less swag.

Can we talk about Radioactive?  As BAoH said, "Let's Roll" is big and dumb and awesome, destined to be next summer's Juggalo anthem, for better or worse.  Seriously, Jeezy should put Kid Rock on a hook.  And "Throw It Up" is great by any measure, Em's Soulja Boy impression makes me lol every time.

And there's... "Write Your Name," "Everything I Love the Most" and "Radio"?  Holy fuck, they could seriously give those songs to Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, and Toby Keith, respectively, with almost no alteration, and they would be Nashville hits.

terrible album. i can't believe you're listening to it.

I don't know what the board's stance on Das Racist is, but I love this performance on some sort of Conan O'Brien-based show (I thought he got cancelled?).

http://teamcoco.com/video/das-racist-michael-jackson-112811

For as much wackiness as people felt that Odd Future the Wolfgang engaged in on Jimmy Fallon, I think that's a pretty nutty performance. Wish they'd go back to being funny, though...kind of feel like they've been downhill since "Shut up, Dude."

Neat!

odd future were probably the most talked about group in europe this summer. oh, and battles, which is off the hip-hop tip and you know how i feel about them.

The first 3rd is really, really good, and the rest of it is pretty terrible.  But it's terrible in a really canny way that I can't help but sort of respect.  Gotta get that paper.

Also, I was listening to The Soul Tape last night, and it reminded me of my favorite recent cocaine=white girl joke, "So I started sellin cocaine *and* weed, merged the business / that white girl helped a nigga, fergalicious"

I worked in the deli at Ada's Natural Foods 2007-2008 so if you ever went in there and got a juice it was maybe made by me.

Hey Antero, do you know whatever happened to that Black Hippy record/mixtape that was supposed to come out?  Is it on hold because Kendrick blew up or something?  I google it every couple weeks, but there's never any news.

Also, I definitely listened to UGK's entire discography twice today.  RIP Pimp C.

I always listen to Ridin' Dirty or Underground Kingz when I want a UGK fix.  I'd forgotten how fucking good Super Tight is.

It'll happen eventually, but you're going to see more solo stuff first.  Schoolboy Q has another one dropping soon.

Speaking of year-end lists, can someone tell me why I won't be including the newest Beastie Boys?

The production is awesome, but the flow feels a decade or two out of date. Why should this matter, though? I still like the rhymes on Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head - why don't I like them on Hot Sauce Committee?

An outdated flow on a modern track feels like a failure (or refusal) to evolve rather than a simple mark of an era.  When the Beastie Boys started only the most sophisticated rhymers were dropping multis and internal rhymes and so forth.  By now they should have learned at least a couple tricks.

i'm mostly curious to see which lil b release wins out. it's not like other lists where people argue for an objective "best," it's just fun to see which lil b everyone sides with. Is this everything from 2011?

Angels Exodus (january)
Red Flame Devil Music Edition (february
Illusions of Grandeur (march)
Bitch Mob Respect da Bitch Vol. 1 (may)
I'm Gay (june)
I Forgive You (august)
Black Flame (september)
Silent President (october)
Based God Velli (november)

Culling a couple tracks from each of those would result in a 20-ish track brick of pure musical platinum.
