Is "I'm God" the first place Lil B takes the name Based God?

But what about this?

bearing in mind that almost every bit of hip hop I've heard in the past 6 years or more has been on the radio---I'll say I like this a bit, can imagine liking it more if I heard it in rotation, and that given my frame of reference, it reminds me of Lil Wayne, though a little slurry and slow.

Speaking of "comparisons that will seem offensive to people who really are deep on the distinctions, but are kinda true to an outsider," I recall in the 1990s having non-rock-obsessives say that Green Day sounded like the same thing as both Spin Doctors and Pavement. And now, I think they might be right! (Especially the first, but that's because I listen to too much Pavement and hear the distinctions all too well.)

since the guy seems incredibly keen to give his music away for free why don't someone pick ten or so tracks and make a bit of a mix for us baseworld ignorants

Lil B vs The Devil

Dear LPTJ hip-hop pops,

I've been trying to up my rap intake lately, but it's been tricky because Iris wants to know what all the words mean. What's a la di daddy to do? Hip-hop on headphones isn't my style.

Signed,

A Based God Pilgrim, Bitches

is the problem here that the words aren't very nice? it may make me a terrible parent, but i've been listening to all sorts of hip hop with my daughter since she was born. if she's maladjusted, at least she'll be cool and have good taste. that's all we can hope for right?

I'd be a bottom for Lil' B.

also, this.

did anyone else notice how much good news there was on page 2 of this thread?

So you can now pre-order Island, and when you do, you get to download one track of your choice.  This means the internet should have it cobbled together any second now, right?

also are we far enough along in the year to begin stating without hyperbole that '10 and '11 are the two best years for hip hop since at least '00 and '01? (i usually think of classic "years" in pairs...)

'09 had Huntsville International, 6 Kiss, Blaqkout, Cuban Linx 2, Blackout 2, State vs. Radric Davis, those two Freddie Gibbs tapes, The Recession.

'09 had some great stuff, but that list also starts to exhaust the possibilities.

'10 you could fill a top-10 list entirely with Lil B tapes, and then you have OF, Main Attrakionz, J. Stalin, two E-40 albums, DaVinci, Danny Brown, Big Boi, Big KRIT, Roach Gigz, Flockaveli, Wooh Da Kid, two 8Ball & MJG albums, Young L....

I've been all about XXX, but that's that's been my only real hip hop love this year. There have been other likes, though, I guess.

I do want to check out this Idle Warship thing, though.

A bunch of things have been in my #2 slot (I Smoke Because I Don't Care About Death, Pl3dge, Exmilitary, Im Gay, that Clams instrumental mixtape) for a minute here and there, and sure, right now it's XXX, but, yeah.  Cohesive.

If we're gonna go down that road, though, can we talk more about how fucking great Black & Brown is?  I haven't really been feeling Black Milk since Popular Demand, and, man, I really just want him to be Danny Brown's full-time producer, now.

I haven't heard that yet.  I need to.  Black Milk's first record was pretty great, if somewhat unbalanced.

I should say that the production on Album of the Year and especially Tronic is fucking sick; it's just that Black is really ho-hum as a rapper, to the point where every guest spot, even if it's by a random Detroit rapper who is probably dead by now, is a welcome bit of adrenaline.  Royce da 5'9 practically steals Tronic with his one feature, which should tell you something.

Black & Brown, for me, was like, "Fuck, I forgot how Black Milk is one of the best producers in the game."
