I mean, he's not
incompetent
, but he doesn't have a terribly distinctive flow or delivery and, more to the point, he's nowhere near strong enough to compete with the beats he chooses.

Clearly he has changed producers since "Crank Dat,"
I think we need to give you a primer on the way the rap world operates.
Uhhhh no, I totally understand how it works. That comment was sort of a joke. Don't be a dick.

i think this is a pretty key point when thinking about any rapper, especially these overnight blog darlings.
and whoever earlier said they weren't digging
as i float
, say what!? half way through, l's killing it. i was afraid it would be a bunch of clams-lite, but he's rocking a really traditional sound throughout, very catchy all of it. and the best part? he must've gotten my tweets about not always rapping about getting blowjobs, because he has a muuuuuuch broader palette of subject matter here.

Man, ASAP Rocky chose some great beats but I find him totally uninspiring as a rapper.
This is true. ASAP raps over some of the hottest sounds--Houston screwed music/trill, atmospheric samples, New Agey Clams Casino vibes. His lines seem to be comfortably within rap guidelines circa 2006. He says fly stuff but I never feel like quoting him or anything.
This problem is surmounted for me by the fact that ASAP can beat ride. There are moments where he raps double time along with ticking snare hits and it sounds awesome. "Brand New Guy" is an example from Live, Love, ASAP. Serious shit, this beat gets murdered.

It's increasingly common nowadays, given the trend in recent years towards massive, wide-screen production - Lex Luger style trap bangers, big ambient sounds like Clams and Block Beattaz, DJ Khaled's circus of maximalist absurdity. Most people on Luger beats sound like they're drowning.

Yeah, seriously. Has any promoter/festival in the US reacted similarly? I'll bet not.

It's not incumbent on anyone else to know/give a shit about Tyler's constructed characters or temporary subject positions or whatever if they just find the lyrics to be vile and repugnant.

Yeah the repressive state apparatus of the major music festival has gone too far this time.

Flying Lotus spun Hard in da Paint at Fun Fun Fun fest in Austin last night, was insanely loud and enjoyable.
Del tha Funkee Homosapien had kind of a boring set and possibly one of rap's worst hype men. Kool Keith was great, only complaint is that I didn't get to hear Aliens. He still did Sex Style though
Cunninlynguists cd was kind of a let down for me, not the production I'm used to. Had to switch to the new Freestyle Fellowship to keep me awake at work

Not mine, mine is from 1994. It seems that the old one wasn't very popular.
