They need to move the outfield walls in about twenty feet and we'd have like three fucking homers already

Wait, so what is this scheduling? There's this game and then Miami goes to Cincy and STL to Milwaukee? So this game tonight is a one game series or what the fuck?

Also, did the announcers just say something about a "Greg Dobbs effect"? The hell kind of effect does Greg Dobbs have?

Hahahahahaha

And yeah the Marlins are Cincy's opening day opponent tomorrow. Bizarro. I'm sure it'll only get crazier next year with the two 15-team leagues.

goddammit i just got offered free tickets to the brewers game saturday and i had to turn them down

i've never gone opening weekend before!

Oh man, what time do the Brewers play? If it's at night maybe I can run up there after the Cubs game Saturday afternoon. (Mostly joking...)

It was a pretty good game and all. But no statue monster action is a bummer.

I just checked and the next two Marlins home series are against the Astros and the Cubs. If that thing stays dormant through those six games I'm gonna start speculating about curses

In spite of my ambivalence about baseball, I can see the appeal of opening day at Wrigley even on a 48 degree day. As such I am slightly jealous of my ladyfriend who somehow managed to snap up a loose ticket.

No runs, 4 hits. Johan actually pitched well.
On the bright side, Tommy Hanson looked good as well. His breaking pitches were flat out disgusting. His fastball was only sitting around 89-90 MPH. If he can push it up to 92-93 as the season goes on, he's going to be scary good. Medlen looked fucking fantastic and I wish he was in the rotation. Venters had an iffy outing, but didn't give up any runs. Just need to get the offense going.

Also, dead horse, etc, but:
Justin Verlander: 8 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 7 K, 0 R
Jose Valverde: 1 IP, 3H, 0 B, 1 K, 2 R, Blown Save

Who gets the Win? Valverde of course! Such a stupid stat.

Never bet against the Mets on Opening Day (they mysteriously have baseball's best winning percentage on Opening Day). Bet against them the remaining 161 games of course.

Pirates got 2-hit by Roy & Papelbon, no surprise there. On the plus side lefty Bedard looked great, displaying a nasty talent for laying his breaking ball right inside on the edges. Infield defense had some nice plays. Nate McLouth earned the biggest ovation of the day, just by virtue of walking up to the plate to pinch hit in the 8th. Pittsburgh loves that man more than they probably should. Roy blew right through him.
