mine had a punchline

edit: the sad thing is if a republican president would be saying those exact words you would be all over him. you shouldn't blindingly root for a political party like it's a sports team, apply critical thinking and stand your ground on what you believe in.

Well, in my mind, E and F go together these days.  Bush sold Iraq based on the terrorism argument, and he could've sold a war against North Korea, Pakistan, Syria, Iran, etc etc on similar arguments.  Not that I'm IN ANY WAY suggesting war with any of those countries.

girl, depends on how the '08 election goes.  If the GOP wins, we're almost certainly invading Iran, and then it's Blow Up City.

Look, you don't want Roe v. Wade overturned, and I don't want to die in Iran, so just vote for Obama/Biden, OK?

Nobody buys your little vaudeville naiveté act anymore, Babar. Especially when you only use it as a flimsy facade for petty concern trolling.

As a pacifist, it just scares the shit out of me hearing the President of the USA say something like that, 's all. Even though he's a cool guy that plays basketball and sings Al Green songs.

I had to look up what that means. How am I "offering a poisoned apple in the form of advice to political opponents that, if taken, would harm the recipient"?

Dawg,

1) Barring an Iranian-backed terrorist attack on US soil, there is absolutely zero chance that Obama will launch a full-scale military attack on Iran. If he were to do so (with Congressional approval, because he'd need that), it would be the worst mistake by a US president since at least Vietnam, and I would say so. But it's not going to happen.

2) If John McCain (or Ron Paul) had been elected in '08, then, yeah, Roe v. Wade would likely be in the process of being challenged right now.

3) If you go down a little further in those threads you're quoting from, you'll see me and pollo and others talking about how important it would be to be critical of Obama once he actually took up the mantle of governance. And if you go a little further, you'll find diesel_powered flouncing and calling us "right-wing collaborators" for doing so.

4) My position has never been "Obama is completely right about everything and Ron Paul is completely wrong about everything." My position has always been, "Obama is grievously wrong about some important things, but those are things a Ron Paul presidency is unlikely to be able to change, and there are many additional things about Ron Paul that make Obama vastly preferable." I've tried over and over to explain to you why I feel that way. At best you're all, "I'll take it under advisement," then go back to posting inspirational Ron Paul videos 2 seconds later. At worst, you completely ignore what I'm saying and pretend like you're talking to an Obama staffer or something.  So yeah, concern trolling. You can disagree with me, but at least engage with what I'm saying.

edit: NB: In that quote above, I didn't actually think McCain was likely to launch a full-scale attack on Iran, either, it was a jokey reference to that "Bomb Iran" Beach Boys thing he did.

Dunno how to answer that, too preoccupied blindingly rooting for a political party, all unable to apply critical thinking

Alright dude, since I've started following these politics threads I don't remember seeing anything critical of Obama so sorry if I got that wrong. I'm glad to hear you oppose a war against Iran and let's hope that won't be the case no matter who's president. Anyway, I didn't say Obama is going to invade Iran but that if a McCain or a Romney would say those exact words, self-proclaimed liberals would be more critical of them.

Shit I only follow the political thread in streaks but I've seen a lot of Obama disillusionment expressed in here.

But think of the kinds of activist judges Air Bud would appoint to the bench. Feline rights would be the first to fall.

I feel ya. I'm optimist about seeing an atheist US president in the next, say 20 years? 30 is probably more realistic. Hopefully in my lifetime, at least.

I'm certainly not a regular in politics threads or a connoisseur of US politics, but I wouldn't try to count the number of times I've skimmed these threads and thought "gee, these guys are really hard on Obama", so this comment has me dumbfounded as well.
