the whole thing played without either of us saying anything--bizarrely captivating stuff! I love the camera movements and the sense of space. also, the woman doing laurie anderson style stuff that now sounds like #protobased.

First out of town show was a rip roarin' success!

I just watched Finn perform in his first ever school play! He wore an elephant mask, stood there with his hands behind his back, sang a song with his classmates, and then dramatically fell down at the end when they sang something about elephants falling down. It was pretty awesome.

When it was over, he went home with his mom, and I came back to my apartment, where I don't get to spend much time these days. L doesn't get home from work until 9:30, so I've got some hours to kill.

I am killing them by sitting on my porch on the first porch-worthy night of the year. It is a beautiful evening, exactly the right temperature, and I have lighted a candle, and I have put on a Serge Gainsbourg record, and I have with me a bottle of good scotch.

The woman I love is not here to share my joy, but aside from that, it probably doesn't get a whole lot better than this.

through I realized the best thing to do would be to get the hoodie and work shirt off and walk around in a t-shirt yesss.

(For the rest of you guys, one of the things Finn is awesome at is shredding on his paper guitar and doing knee slides like a rockstar across Davy's old wood floors. When I tried to replicate it I just ended up with bruises.)

for my part, someone I wrote letters of rec for just got into both of her top law school choices (UCLA and Berkeley, swag!). it's pretty gratifying to see the well-deserved success, and feel like I made a (minor) contribution toward it.

me, i just discovered a SECRET COMPARTMENT above the kitchen sink while changing a light bulb. I had to remove a pane of frosted glass and voila, a perfect place for my large bills & kilos. if i did that sort of thing, you know!

Just emailed Dossie Easton, co-author of The Ethical Slut, asking if I could access her thesis. I told her about my book and all. Fucking love the internet age enabling me to do this, but eek. I clicked the send button and felt like I'd been doused in cold water. We shall see.

Among other things, she replied "Best wishes - I'd love to read your book.  Send me the galleys and I'll write you a blurb when it's ready." OMGGGGGGGHHHH

Here it is, the middle of March and it's a gorgeous 80 degrees outside and I just played a 9-inning baseball game and got sunburned a little bit! Middle of March! Suck it, winter.

me I've been on some long-ass walks.  And today I went with a former bandmate to take some time-lapse photography of the sunset in Astoria Park, using a telescope tripod that has a motor that moves the angle of the camera (or telescope) at the same rate as the revolution of the earth.

I walked around all day with my parents. It was nice. But oh god I need some more warm weather clothes for my babyguts. I don't really enjoy overwarm weather, but today was just pleasant, with a bookstore and record store and iced coffee and ice cream!

I ordered my bridesmaid dress for my brother's wedding, which is kind of awesome, or at least I'm pleased that I don't have to worry about it again for a while. My mom discovered that David's had the dress she was going to order for $100 less than she was going to pay at the boutique, so that was also awesome.

Even though a few circumstances which I may or may not bitch about later are mildly pissing me off, things are pretty damn alright lately. My new flat is nice, with nice people. Mezzanine bed, bright orange walls. I've taken to watching an episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender every night before bed, which is grand. But most of all, my mind feels really sharp and clear at the moment, able to process ideas quite well.

Also Grace and our cousin and Mother and I hung out and played instruments this evening and had brandy and we got into a really good argument about pornography. Much annoyed/un-annoyed laughing and gesticulating.

Aw, see I thought you were real pissed off about singing with us! You were all "These songs SUCK and why do we have to play all ploddy three chord stuff this SUCKS and I HATE IT and maybe I shouldn't sing with you guys" (answer: we have to play drony 3 chord stuff because Grace has never played a musical instrument accompanying other people in her life before, it's hard and sort of a big deal for me to be doing it at all, especially as I'm the only woman in this family who isn't like, crazy proficient) (I love you but seriously you were being kinda brutal) (Brandy and shouting were pretty good though)

I will record a B. family piano jam and you can see how bad SUCKY songs can SUCK EVEN HARDER as a means of providing Anne with some perspective. If my dad starts singing I leave the room, close the door behind me and turn the tv up real loud.

Fair point, I do get like that. Sorry. Mother likes playing those songs anyway though. I've been similarly scathing at the Pa where we've got quite a lot of proficient musicians who still insist on playing song after song in G Major. The other cousins and I played Sweet Child O' Mine instead. Also I enjoyed playing Revelator with Carmel.
