I'm intrigued by sodastreams too, but yeah, I'd have to filter water first here too, since all the water here is super hard (it's what makes for awesome bourbon though, yay limestone). Part of why I gave up on the cat water fountain I used to have is that it kept getting a ton of build up on the plastic which it made it even more difficult to clean and more algae-ridden. (Now Callie drinks in style from one of
these
though which she seems to like.)
In other awesomeness, I bought a car! It is yellow, like a rich, egg yolk kind of yellow. It's awesome in other ways too. It's a Ford Focus hatchback—was originally thinking of something more the size of the Fit/Fiesta, but those felt weirdly small to me, so went a bit bigger, but still compact.

Oh man yeah our pet fountain was pretty much destroyed after six months of use with that water.

I am voting tonight--and I am
very nervous
about this whole thing--Jeb I hope you're right, but I have this feeling that he is going to a) win and b) treat his win as a mandate and be like YOU ALL LOVE ME, NOW I WILL BRING BACK SEGREGATION TO WISCONSIN IT IS CLEARLY WHAT YOU REAFFIRMED THAT YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO DO WOO

He does have a history of treating very narrow wins as mandates, that is true
Here's the thing though: even if he wins, he's pretty likely to be indicted soon, don't you think? It really seems that's the way the John Doe investigation is going. I'd much rather have him lose this election, but but I don't get the feeling that he's long for the political world either way.
By the way, how fucked up are Walker's policies that he makes me feel reasonably good about supporting Tom Barrett.

I noticed you said 'voted against Scott Walker' rather than 'voted for Tom Barrett.' Part of my fears stem from the fact that he is running against the dude. It didn't work two years ago what on earth makes us think it will work now.
And you are probably also right re: John Doe, but I just really don't wanna give him the beady-eyed temporary satisfaction. Plus how fucked up are we, as a state, gonna look if we vote him back in and an indictment happens?
answer: really fucked up

He and every other politician.
Occasions where politicians take an election result to confer a mandate: all of them.
Occasions where experts think you can conclude a mandate from an election which isn't a referendum on that particular issue: none of them.

More music awesomeness: Beyonce apparently named her child "Blue" after a passage in Rebecca Solnit's
A Field Guide to Getting Lost
. First Jay-Z, now Solnit! Diva's got taste.
It's like Beyonce & Jay-Z are First Lady & Prez in an alternative universe of radical politics.
http://iam.beyonce.com/post/24697981873
EDIT: Sorry, I repeated some misinformation here. Beyonce just posted the Solnit excerpt on her blog - she never said it was why she named her daughter Blue.
I bet there's a million reasons why she chose Blue, now that I think about it.

Nah, I know. But if you're really a Rebecca Solnit fan, you know she's a radical. Or a bioregionalist, to put it more attractively.
This latest project of hers is amazing:
Infinite City: A San Francisco Atlas
As for Jay-Z - if he's not radical, at least his tradition is.

Where's my "I Just Saved $5,000!" t-shirt?!

Finally managed to make sense of all the information supplied to me by HR, so my last day at work is 6/22, but because of remaining PTO I get paid through 7/5, annnnnd I get to keep the regular health benefits until the end of the pay period on 7/15. Woo.

My soon-to-be flat is in the suburb I want, which is fairly near town and has a fair few of my friends living in it (The suburb, not the flat). The flatmates seem decent, friendlier than my last ones anyway. Also the room is about twice the size I thought it would be--like a real room rather than a cupboard--and apparently you can hear the lions from the zoo there!
Also, work is back to normal so I will get a chance to write for the first time in about 6 weeks. The boss may well make more time for me, because someone said to him they liked my stuff and wanted to see more. I have managed to pick a topic that will not make my head explode, like at all, and get to call one of my best friends in the UK who I haven't talked to since...October or so to talk about it tomorrow night. This is the pretty alright life.

Impulse purchase! Saw this print --
http://store.dkngstudios.com/product/washed-out
-- pop up in my RSS this morning and wow, it was apparently created specifically with L and I in mind, just in time for us moving in together.
Just a couple Washed-Out listenin' librarians who live in Georgia, love to swim, and are pondering matching anchor tattoos.

Today I got a call back about the job and then went to a craft beer tasting at a bar that was more like a get together with a bunch of knuckleheads pouring out bombers where I met a bunch of NYC craft beer peoples and generally had a fantastic time
