can someone explain exactly what the deal was with the winning touchdown? i know the patriots let it go because it gave them time left for another play. but why would have the giants got a kick if the dude fell just outside of the touchdown area?

They would have run the clock down to two seconds and then kicked the field goal, winning the game.

yeh, it's the same reason; the giants could have kicked at any point. normally you kick if you can't make it into the end zone (because TDs are worth more points), but in this case it was arguably in the giants' greater interest to kick because they could have controlled the rest of the game time, and then the fewer points scored by a field goal would have still been enough to win.

I thought it was a great game. I was at a party with a heavily pro-Giants bunch, and all of us were on edge that last quarter. I don't see how you can call "boring" a game that came down to a hail mary as the clock ran out! Anyway, I'm happy to see my boy Tom Coughlin vindicated ALTHOUGH, I had to chuckle at all the "best fans in the world" comments 'cuz it seems to me that Giants fans are always the first to turn on their coach (and to a lesser extent, Eli) at the first whiff of trouble.

I lasted about 20 seconds into the halftime show. Saw the centurions or whatever and went to help clean dishes.

Re: FB, I did my once-weekly FB perusal during halftime and kind of rolled my eyes at the few dozen people who felt compelled to inform the world, from on high, that they were opting out of our petty circuses

Yeah, the game was a fuckin' nail-biter. I think some people will call 'boring' anything that's not a bomb/TD-fest. God knows over in Harlem we were screaming and gnashing our teeth for nearly all of it. A game with that many clutch third downs isn't boring, even if it's not always enjoyable.

And yes, I made that 'What does this have to do with Ron Artest?' joke. It went over well.

I did go to an arena soccer game once and it was terrifying. I think it gave me PTSD.
