I feel Bloomish often.
Quote
Mr Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls. He liked thick giblet soup, nutty gizzards, a stuffed roast heart, liverslices fried with crustcrumbs, fried hencods' roes. Most of all he liked grilled mutton kidneys which gave to his palate a fine tang of faintly scented urine.
My goal is to eat only a little meat every day, and have it be as perfect and decadent as possible. Have you ever had duck hearts? My god. Glory glory glory. I have absorbed the souls and powers of ducks.
you are trying to steal my heart.
meatless mondays are a great trend, to scale back even slightly is on point, and if you can't afford the best quality meats available the admirable thing to do is steer clear - out of respect for yourself, the planet and other earthlings.
chet: thank you.
edit: i do make exceptions for wing nights and bbqing, because i love my friends more than i care about farm animal rights.

out of respect for animals you should stop paying to have them brutally killed so you can eat them

I'm pretty uncomfortable with the notion that meat should only be eaten by those who can afford to buy "the good stuff." That's like an endorsement of the status quo, essentially.

(I do 'get' that Mcdonalds n processed foods are both unacceptable because they offer cheap unhealthy food for people, many of which are in an economic class that can't afford to eat healthier,
because eating heathy is damn expensive
-- so, no I'm not OK with that but that's another thing)
is it really though? i mean you can go out and buy cheap cuts of meat (chicken thighs, turkey etc, minced beef) and a bunch of veggies and make awesome meals out of that which can last a single person days or feed a large family, and imagine it's not gonna cost that much more than your average big mac meal, unless like veggies and shit are insanely expensive in america. i think bad eating habits are down to a lack of food education and know how among the lower classes rather than a matter of expense.
This takes a significant time commitment and contains the risks of ruining all or portions of it. Including plans changing and your fresh food rotting.
Sure, some of this comes down to food education or rather cooking education in a way that does have an easy Here is a pamphlet fix. But it also comes down to busy or tired.
Where I'm coming from note: I have been cooking for myself/others for a good while, working at it with ups and downs in how faithful I am. And hearing what sounds like it's easy makes me want to quit trying.

I don't think that at all. I do want the meat industry as a whole to change completely and for the us to change our relationship to meat- which go hand in hand. I do feel people should eat less meat in general. But I never thought anything like "if you can't afford to buy the good stuff you shouldn't eat it at all" that's an unreasonable leap. When I said I had access to "good" meat I meant that there's actually a place in my city that sells it now. I don't even know what it costs compartiively because as I said I personally would feel gross eating it- but that's just me! Sheesh.

That was in response to cbs, who said precisely that:

widely accessible, standard beef might be one of the nastiest things on the planet. it's bad for you, degrades the environment and is the worst way an animal can be treated.
peacocks: the only way the industry will change is if people stop supporting industrial practices like pink slime and buy meat from organic, happy cows. so what if it's not cheap? there's no reason to eat beef every day unless you've got a burning desire to get fat fast and die young.

Pollo: oooh, ok.
CBS: Well, I don't really want to get into a class debate. The meat industry is very wasteful and public support does matter but I think tons and tons of money from huge corporations is spent every year lobbying to make the shitty food choices the ones most available. If something is going to change it will take HUGE pushes in the other direction, which i don't think will happen by simply choosing not to eat certain products. But who am I to preach? I'm not doing any activism at all. I go to work and buy my things at my places.

there's no debate, this isn't about class or money - you either have principles or a careless appetite and, while i don't think being poor is a good excuse for selfishness, do understand that having enough for yourself makes it easier to be considerate of others. latest update from seth godin:
Quote from: seth godin
We say we want a revolution...
Of course, what we say doesn't matter so much. What we do is what matters, and we have far more influence that we'd like to confess.
We say we want local merchants to offer great service, deep selection and community values, but we cross the street to the big box store to save $3.
We say we want companies to honor their promises and act transparently, but one new product or big discount from a business that has deceived us in the past and we come right back for more.
We say we're disgusted with Congress, but almost all of us vote to re-elect the dufus we sent there in the first place.
We say we hate spam, but we send it. And sometimes buy from it.
We say we'd like people to think first and act later, but we get cut off in traffic and all bets are off.
We say we love art, the brave work that touches us, but we listen to oldies and rarely head out to hear live music or visit a cutting edge gallery.
Hypocrisy may be an epidemic, but the problem isn't in what we say. It's what we do.

I have been eating essentially no junk food for a while now, that taco notwithstanding. Today I ate an entire personal pan pizza and felt super gross for like two hours afterward.

That's the grinder! Only one of those a year or your innards will be too slippery to hold onto anything nutritious afterwards.

Erik has been experimenting with the statement "cheese goes with everything". Today's breakfast was awesome. Honey Maid graham crackers with melted tasty cheese. A+ would eat again.

and they haven't nearly enough meat on them
I'd eat the fuck out of a goose. From my experience they're mostly assholes.

Canada Geese are pretty inefficient digesters and don't retain much nutrition. Like if cows had one stomach

I think it depends on the goose, no? And the preparation. Because
this
sounds delicious.

bookmarked! i told my tv director interest that my favourite thing to cook was rabbit, to impress him with my culinary skills, only to discover he is generally raw food vegan and might even have a pet bunny. it would be a surprise of that won me many points. chances are i will be eating the organic bison liver that's in my fridge alone, unless you happen to be in edmonton in the near future.
in the spring i like to poach a goose egg and have it over asparagus with shaved parmesan and black pepper. am pretty sure you're not allowed to poach the actual goose though! yeah, i looked it up and you can get a license but if you get caught shooting one out of season it's a fine of up to $15 000 and/or 6 months in the pen. they mate for life so to separate a pair is quite disturbing.
edit: something that does not sound appetizing to me, that i discovered in london, is seagull eggs! has anybody tried one of these? they are such a filthy bird, dirty scavengers, that i couldn't believe that people would actually buy them - although i do suppose lobsters and crabs are bottom feeders so... i've seen hipsters and chinese pulling in crab traps off a dock in vancouver but it's not for me.
