Am unsure of the 30-letter preservative of choice used at A&W these days but my girlfriend and I stopped for a pair of teen burgers on our way across the country and I couldn't get over the chemical aftertaste of those gut bombs. Maybe it was counter sanitizer/cleaning spray? Am flipping through vegan cookbooks on the Sea to Sky highway, the final leg of our trip into the mountains - have a month to shake 10 lbs, the indulgent party monster instinct, and that ammonia-laced burger aftertaste.

super broke so made some super rice.
fried up some tri colour peppers, red onion and garlic.
threw in a cup of rice, and coated it in some tumeric, chili powder and cajun seasoning. added some chicken stock.
threw in a few whole cloves and a couple of bay leaves.
brought it to the boil and added some mixed frozen veggies half way through.
it was DELICIOUS.

Accidentally burned the lamb confit I was gonna use to make trigona, which kinda sucks. So I went to the store just before they closed last night, bought a bunch of ground beef, and seasoned it 'til it roughly approximated the taste of the confit. I think with the feta and spinach inside the trigona, plus the flaky pastry/butter layer outside, they should still be pretty good.
Mostly, though, I'm just mad that the burning filled my apartment with smoke, so now all my clothes smell like they've been through a house fire. I'm hoping my parents don't think I've been smoking The Drugs when I see them tonight.

Man I'm starting to wanna put capers in/on everything that enters or leaves my kitchen, and this could be an expensive habit. The little 3.5 oz jars of capers I buy cost 4.85. A tablespoon is a serving. It's four servings per bottle, so about $1.20 per tablespoon. And I usually use half a jar at a time. I've been putting those tasty little motherfuckers on everything, salads, stir-frys, the faux-Moroccan dishes I've been making, even pasta and tomato sauce. Shit's expensive but I can't stop! This must be what a coke habit is like.

as if i didn't hit the jackpot enough already on so many other fronts, the lady i hitched myself to loves to cook for me so much it practically qualifies as a fetish. we almost never have time for her to really throw down though, given busy lives and schedules, but thanks to a shared hangover that left us fairly housebound today, this is what she just posted on the facebook:
Quote
on the docket tonight--grilled hake with a miso-glaze, sushi rice and a fennel, apple, red pepper and ginger salad with a mustard vinaigrette. for dessert, grapefruit campari sorbet (it's in the ice cream maker now! wish me luck that it comes out, since i didn't have very much ice.).
basically, i'm sitting here trying to focus on the dull academic prose i've been churning out all day, and trying not to salivate.

Milly I was researching that Made-Rite, original purveyors of the "loose meat" sandwich, they randomly opened a location in NC earlier this year! Worth driving 2 hours for, dogg?

Maybe dawg. But you can see if you have a taste for such:
brown the ground beef
use half of a thing of chicken brother
mix in soy sauce and au ju
then lower the heat and cook that off, and bam! Throw some ketchup on that bitch.
this is the test to see if it's worth a 2 hour hike.

I had never heard of Made-Rite until a few years ago when I was biking across Iowa. One of the food places had Made-Rite and so I gave it a try and I was like, "Oh, you mean a sloppy joe."

Made Rite gonna give me 24 inch pythons, brother. Just like the Hulkster, brother. Brother the artesian blue cheese Made-Rite is part of Made-Rite's
new concept menu
, brother, custom built to deliver the bold flavors Hulkamaniacs crave. You can find the new menu at 5 Made-Rite locations, man, including the North Carolina and West DM/Mills Civic locations brother.

Breakfast for dinner. Two thick strips of fancy bacon, fat reserved to fry eggs and plantains, and wilt greens.
Also, a bloody mary.

I'll bring corn grits and black beans if you want to practice axe throwing out back, eating cellared sweet wild apples for dessert.

Today the weather forecast called for deadly tornadoes. I was like, fuck it, if we're all gonna be wiped out, I'm going on top motherfuckers. During the thunderstorms Paul and I did this:
