I don't mean I'm making it right this instant. Probably this weekend.

Here's a pretty delicious-looking recipe for the Alabama-style sauce:

http://www.saveur.com/article/Recipes/Alabama-Style-Chicken-Sandwiches-with-White-Sauce

I have the sauce mixed up for this, a double batch 'cause I'm doing 2 chickens.  Tasty but it could use more horseradish Smile

Good stuff? Half cup of horseradish ain't enough? I glanced at the recipe again and while it looks great, I think it needs a tbsp. or two of minced capers.

well I doubled the recipe and kind of eyeballed everything, and I used some really strong prepared horseradish my neighbor gave me, and it looked like it was somewhere between 3/4 and a whole cup, I dunno. It was horseradishy and spicy but I wanted it to kick me in the face and give me chemical burns.

You'd think that going into my 13th year as a vegetarian I would get over the fact that, hey, sometimes you accidentally eat something with, say, chicken fat in it, or whatever. But I guess not.

Hey, real quick: see that big tub of gochujang in Nick's picture up there?

Where can I buy that in Chicago? My big ol' weird market on Argyle never has it, and I am about 2 spoonfuls away from out.

once I was at a restaurant with my parents and a lady was walking around with these fried appetizers being all "shrimp bla bla bla" and i was like "yes, I will try a shrimp bla bla bla" but when I bit into it, it was chicken Sad and when I said "this is actually chicken" she argued with me and then acted like I was crazy when I said "you should make sure it's actually shrimp next time because some people don't eat chicken."

but I guess I shouldn't just be biting into things just because some waitress says it's shrimp. I also feel bad about eating shrimp but they are so goooooood.

Joong Boo Market
3333 N. Kimball

Or you can go to H-Mart in Niles if that is more convenient but I doubt it would be.

That is not bad!  I bought my current stash at Mitsuwa, and as much as I'd like to go back there, I don't see a lot of time in Arlington Heights in my future.  Well, especially not now.

Anybody got some ideas for other cool shit I want to buy at a korean grocery store? Salted shrimp in a jar, here I come.

Though, I guess I'm about to not really have a kitchen for like a month.

On the other hand, the kimchi will be ready...

A couple hours ago, I ate some leftover beef/feta/spinach trigona filling that's been in my fridge for like two weeks.  No signs of food poisoning!  Go me!

Maybe I'll make some broccoli to celebrate.

Where goes Gochujang, goes Dwenjang, so that's an easy pickup. I'm also told I should have on-hand these frozen glutinous rice cakes to drop into soup.
