02. Illusions Of Grandeur
03. The Growth
04. Rock 4 Sho
05. Unchain Me
06. Prayer To Music
07. All My Life (remix)
08. I'm Like Killah
09. Im Certified
10. December 1989
11. I Forgive You
12. I Need the Based
13. Let Shit Slide
14. Based Gangsta Prayer
15. Illusions of Grandeur Remix

I like how it's decently well shot and edited, but includes, y'know, five minutes of Starlito gesturing at and touching bar soap in a bathroom sink. His hands must have been so dry!

Fuck, that's a fucking beat right there. I still really don't like Rick Ross's rapping. Why wasn't Meek Mill on that shit.

but: V-Nasty > blonde chick in the "Purple Swag" video.
Also Gucci's been weak as fuck since he started having a complete mental breakdown.

As far as I'm concerned the recent Juicy J resurgence has really served only to draw attention to the fact that he really is not a good rapper.

I don't know if that's a very bold claim. Three Six's strengths are grim hedonism and atmosphere. Nobody in that crew (past or present) is technically a good rapper. Crunchy didn't offer much more than wirebrush vocal texture, Lord Infamous had that annoying habit of only rapping in straight 8ths or straight triplets, DJ Paul's main asset is that (awesome) gruff bark and Juicy J, uh, lately spends most his verses talking about doing a lot of X.
I'll always fuck with those dudes, though, even though they've moved in a questionable direction ever since Most Known Unknown. Their next album is now over two years behind schedule, and the burgeoning Juicy J solo career thing is beyond random, so I wonder if he and DJ Paul had a falling out or something.

They certainly aren't a crew of technical monsters, but it's always less apparent when a guy has to drop a single verse rather than hold up a whole song by himself. It also sounds like the Brick Squad sound is a little to slow for him, and he can't fill the spaces with his voice.
Anyhow, I'm just going to listen to Quik and Suga Free today.

I haven't heard any of his tapes with Lex Luger yet, but now I'm kinda curious.
Listening to Quik is always a good plan!

what's the definitive meek mill tape?
juicy j is a bad rapper.
the two
rubberband business
tapes could still be cherry picked to make one hell of an album.
rick ross' best rapped album is
deeper than rap
.
i was bummed not seeing young l mentioned on any of the year-end lists.
lito seems like he'd be the coolest rapper to just hang out with. i kept thinking the soap scene would be explained at some point. he looks tired. he should take a break from partying and rapping so much.

He appeared to believe that his reference to a X Ocean song (can no longer recall if it was Billy or Frank) constituted an explanation for dumping a bunch of soap in a sink, but what the hell. Lito seems like a pretty cool and straightforward guy, as do his friends. My favorite part of the video is where the fellow sings the hook for the one with the Lotus Flower Bomb beat while tending to a grill full of barbecue sauce-marinated chicken and a can of bud light.

pharrell verse on the ross tape is just.
there's a section where he just says "i'm on my iphooonnne," silence for the rest of the bar
beyond that this tape is so solid, front to back

Yeah I agree with this, definitely my fave Ross album. "Mafia Music" is an ice cold opener, even if he rhymes "roof" with "roof" three times in a row at the beginning.
