Why did I not like Pl3dge when it first came out? It's great!

I really didn't like it when I listened over the summer. I remember thinking it was really preachy.

Yeah, Killer Mike's got an agenda, but I like politics in my hip hop. And the beats are solid.

q: being entirely working class, do i have more of a claim on hip hop than the middle or upper class white male?

Yeah, you get a commemorative chain with John Henry wielding a hammer on it.
Also, I'll give anyone 100K to jack the chain Chet won.

Quote from: wikipedia
The follow-up single, the self-produced "Cold As Ice" (which featured a sample from "Cold As Ice" by Foreigner), also received radio airplay,[5] although almost half of the song's lyrics had to be censored for the radio version. It was used in the UK on a TV advert for Ice White toothpaste. Both "Ante Up" and "Cold as Ice" reached the top ten on the UK Singles Chart peaking at #7 and #4 respectively.

that video is glorious.

i have been dipping back into late 90s rap videos after noz mentioned tyga's "rack city" song (which even makes it to the radio here in Austin unlike 90% of rap/r&b music).

in particular: jt money and sole's "who dat," black rob's "whoa," ice cub and krayzie bone's "until we rich," mob deep and nas' "it's mine," noreaga and pharrell's "superthug,"504 boyz' "wobble wobble." (links)

I haven't actually seen it. I am just being preemptive.

I am happy for Zach Hill in Death Grips ... that dude is FOR REAL. He needs major label money for his cool.

He also compares himself to Jesus in the best song, and although I don't really care, at the same time, it's lame. I think he's alright though. Mediocre. Some good songs.

Pl3dge is so good. It is preachy, but only in spots, and I think Killer Mike does preachy well, since there's a genuine anger behind it. I definitely lol @ Jeezy's "maddafact dawg, free all my niggas" every time though

At least I didn't thank him or anything based like that.

No, it totally is. It's just that one part where he says..."kinda similiar TOOOoo me!"... I think that actually might be the best song on there, but it just pisses me off, and I'm mostly an atheist. When I hear it, it grates on me, and that's the song I listen to most.

I don't know, man, I think that verse is awesome.

Quote
Bishop Long, what is up with that monkey shit on your head?
Last I checked, vanity was a sin, the Lord said
On my life, I believe you put boys off in your bed
Though some New Birthers and Catholics ain't going to like what I just said
But before you fix your mouth and try to come with a retort
Please be advised that Jesus never took a plea in court
And he never had a plane, and he never had a car
And he never had a church that was visited by stars
But he did have love for the poor and the thieves
And he was in the street, kind of similar to me, nigga.

And, I mean, you know the whole background, right?

http://allhiphop.com/2010/10/12/killer-mike-on-bishop-eddie-longs-scandal-mistrust-religion-but-always-trust-god/

Quote
”If you are a bishop, yet you are not  Episcopal or Catholic, why are you a f**king bishop?” Killer Mike questioned.

Though I suppose it's obvious at this point why I like this
