I played it all with a controller, which worked very easily. Didn't think of trying it with a keyboard.

It's a beautifully put-together game (I for one am chuffed by the recent tendency to have excellent art-direction in video games), with very tight and satisfying gameplay.

In case blucas et al need some more encouragement to keep on with Dwarf Fortress: here is some guy who rigged up a system of minecarts as a fully-automatic shotgun. Each minecart holds 500 units of volume, and a serrated disk or menacing spike (normally components for traps) is a single unit. If a minecart comes to a sudden stop, the items inside it flies out. So, this guy made a powered minecart track which, when a button is pushed, drops a magazine of loaded minecarts down a barrel until none are left. Here is a video of the proof of concept:
http://mkv25.net/dfma/movie-2442-dwarvenauto-shotgun2
The 'g's are goblins, the long line spinning lengthwise is the driveshaft for the minecarts, the sigmas are serrated disks. As you might guess, a creature icon in brown or a red icon indicates that the creature is dead, and the little 'z's are body parts.

Is there anything about Diablo 3 that couldn't have been done 2 years after Diablo 2?

INTERPOL I envision a world where some kid with a xbox but no tv learns about basketball via Baller Beats and develops a style largely influenced by an Interpol song. The Fogarino Step.

And, ultimately he plays for a community college intramural team in South Dakota or something, I guess.

same way that the dude from primus learned to play bass guitar without strings or how st. peter the apostle learned to fish with a rod and reel but no line

Hey, I downloaded the new Trials game on XBox Live last night. Looks to have improved in a number of significant ways (hence the "Evolution" subtitle), but I wonder if the well-executed simplicity of the first installment might be more effective in the long run.

I love it, but for sanity's sake I can only play it for about 20 min at a time (much like Super Meat Boy and every other masochistic precision platformer)

GodDAMNIT, do you know how many FUCKING times I've died fighting the final, final, FINAL boss in The Binding of Isaac?! I really thought I had it that time, and with a character I haven't managed to do it with yet.

This video project will attempt to shed some light on the tremendous lack of variety in male character design, and how detrimental this becomes to a blossoming society that is growing accustomed to video games as a very real part of their lives. Such stale and stagnant design clashes vividly with the rainbow of personalities that are so abundant in real life, and seeing as how the hardware necessary has been available for a good few years, isn’t it about time that video games reflected the diversity of their audience?

We certainly think so.

Sadly, we don’t have a great British comedian to throw wads of pounds sterling at us. We need your help to produce these videos. It’ll be you that’s responsible for bringing awareness to the gaming world. You can help be responsible for changing the course of video game history.

poor dudes, always with the generalized videogame misandry

You know that is a (dumb) parody, right? It's the latest bit in this whole thing:

yeah, I'm aware of that whole thing, but whether this is a real kickstarter or a parody (and it's raised actual $$!)  it makes me want to punch everything and move to Mars.

Hey I finished that Ico game and it was good!

I also started playing that Dark Souls again, and got a message from Girl. If you are reading this, we should try and meet up for some pseudo-anonymous Dark Soulin'! My character wears no clothes and his weapons are two leather knuckledusters, no shields. He dies a lot. Poor ol' Grok.

And I played that extra Portal 2 co-op content and it was delightful.

And I finished the SF4 challenges! During which I learned things about dark corners of my psyche I did not previously know existed, let alone what they contained. The last one was Sakura 23. If I ever have to get a tattoo for some reason, I'd probably get that as a tattoo. Either the notation or just the name and number, as a reminder of what I'm capable of if I just concentrate, think hard, work hard, and don't quit and go waste my day on the internet instead.

Don't worry, I'm not serious about the tattoo.

Let's all play these and then have a group discussion about them!

I don't know man, I'm starting to feel like the flash-to-substance ratio is a little lopsided. It's fun doing the courses outside and in a wider variety of settings, and I like the little details they've added in, like the curving tracks and whatnot, but the courses themselves, and especially the obstacles in the courses, are not nearly as compelling or complex (or fun).

That 10-minute Gigatrack or whatever is AWESOME, though.

Yo Dick I downloaded those a while back, which game we doing first?

Hey any of you PC cats ever played the Risen games? The seafaring-pirate-fantasy RPGs? Dunno much about them but the second one is coming out on Xbox next week and I'm intrigued. Reviews of the PC version are mixed.

Ashley, obviously I'm a noob, but I'm playing on a Mac, and the bundle I downloaded comes with dfhack.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=106790.0

It's kind of ridiculous how much more fun I'm having doing this than playing Diablo, and I haven't even gotten into the meat of the game yet.

I just went to take a look at the macnewbie pack, and it doesn't work on my mac because I use OS X 10.5 Sad.

Just a reminder that if you're not playing Dwarf Fortress, you're wasting your time. This gift from the Random Number God is a procedurally generated lycanthrope enemy to terrify your settlement.
