Hey Em, my fiancee has a lotus too! Right where your new tat is, and about that size. She just got it re-touched and it looks awesome but she won't let me post a picture.

When I first asked her about it she wasn't very forthcoming because it was some hippie shit.

Ha, no worries, and thanks Bernard. I am seeing a spot where my guy forgot to "connect the dots" (can't have any broken circles! goes against the geometry!) so I guess I'm in for a touch-up in three weeks. Also I am glad I have really open shoulders because it is fucking hard to get ointment on the middle of your back when you don't have anyone to help you.

I'm so with you, Em. Thou shalt not compromise the SACRED GEOMETRY.

If anyone's curious, here's a couple pages from the book Sacred Geometry by Miranda Lundy that show the derivation of the "flower of life" circle pattern in Em's tattoo. Pretty simple & remarkable, IMHO.

Note: this isn't the loony book I was talking about. Lundy's book got me interested in these patterns, so when I saw there was a whole book about the flower of life, I gave it a go. Evidently I'm a Taurus, too, because I just can't make the jump from 'neat tricks with circles' to Ancient Alien Argonauts in Africa.

Yep, definitely no AAAs in Africa, but it is pretty cool that you can find depictions of the pattern or similar patterns in temples and holy places from a bunch of different cultures around the world. Apparently neat tricks with circles are popular!

Wikipedia article for spirographs is pretty classic: short history section; short description of use; abandon all regard for the intended audience with a massive dump of involved, unelucidated mathematics

Hey guys, next week when my new tat is officially "healed" I have to go in for a small (free) touch up on a spot that the guy missed in the first place. Would you tip for that, and if so, how much? I feel weird handing over some small amount of money, especially if it's not expected. I was kinda thinking of taking him a pack of the smokes he's constantly running out of and baking cookies for the whole shop, since I get tattooed by another artist there and am friendly with the piercers. Thoughts?
