Thanks!

That video of Jangelma (vocals aside) sounds remarkably like the main theme from My Son... (at least my memory of it). Listening to the second one now.

I'm gonna listen to a buncha stuff off Fire Records today. Starting with the new Cardinal album, and then moving on to Wooden Wand after that, maybe. Then Virgin Passages, Ryan Driver, probably some Giant Sand...

And here's a stream of the new Mark Lanegan -- his first in 8 years. Jack Irons on drums (though it sounds like his talent is wasted here), appearances by Greg Dulli, etc. Sounds pretty good so far, similar to the dirges on The Gutter Twins record.

Isn't that cover like extremely similar to another Mark Lanegan release? I can vaguely remember it from my record store days.

The sleeve for the first single from the album looks like this:

...but that's the only similar one I've come across.

In related news, I'm really digging this album (despite the fact that Lanegan brought in a fucking ace drummer for no apparent reason).

You know what. I like The Sword. I'm not ashamed to say it. Not any more.

Man, I love the way they hide the main riff of "Snakes For The Divine" in the bassline!

I don't know anything about these guys but I do remember tracking down an online portfolio of the dude who painted this cover and he's quite awesome.

Entire Cities - Deep River

Which I must've found out about lurking around here a few years ago. Still a damn fine album.

Anne the Man and I are having a Facebook freakout about Swans (if you preach the message long enough, the world will listen), ably supported by GCR and Jeb.

GI, I looked for you on FB but couldn't find you - friend me & I'll check out these Swans.

I've probably avoided them this long because - as jess has posted elsewhere - swans are nothing less than BIRDS OF THE DEVIL. I give them a wide berth.

I haven't listened to this album in some time but I remember the moment that realization hit me.

I was just coming here to rant about Swans. Here's some which I'm assuming is from the era when their live shows would result in people vomiting and buildings getting condemned from intensity. And then, at the opposite end of the scale, there's beauty. And then there's the songs where your soul gets punched in the stomach. Marinus is better equipped to give the best stuff, but then I got most of these off him. Woo! a new band with a lot to explore Cool

So glad I came across this artist. She is an inner Mongolian singer, singing and playing the music of her people. She has an amazing voice and can reach high notes like a banshee while playing her native yangqin, a Chinese dulcimer. A Mongolian Joanna Newsom? Maybe not quite, but a similar concept. Here's a song of the album (:
