I've decided I like Down Two then Left a little more, but Silk Degrees is right there behind it. And Middle Man is good, and there's some decent stuff from Slow Dancer, but on the whole, his Van Morrison-side isn't as appealing to me.

An overdue revisit of one of the best 3 albums of 2010.

Anybody checked out this new Bob Dylan tribute album? It's 4 discs and pretty uneven but there's some great stuff on there. I wrote a post earlier to call davy's attention to the Steve Earle cover of One More Cup of Coffee but ended up not posting it for whatever reason. Anyway it's pretty cheap and it's to benefit Amnesty International but it's also on Spotify which is how I'm listening.

Haven't been too big on Dylan in a while, but I'll check this out for the contributors.

I should put the 13th Floor Elevators on more often - they've got their own thing going on which appreciate a lot. Nicely balanced tempo changes, melodic and harmonic variety (though perhaps that's more true within songs than between them), and Roky's undeniable intensity as a frontman. Maybe the reason I listen to them so rarely (other than the 20 or so other bands I also say 'I should listen to this more often' about) is that the only disc of theirs I own is a best-of comp (His Eye is on the Pyramid), which always makes me feel dirty.

Robert Palmer - Johnny & Mary
This really is a great song. Recently rediscovered having not heard it since I was a wee one.

The new richard youngs out on root strata is probably the best of the year so far. It's all distorted and indecipherable drum machine patterns but it doesn't come off as harsh, the songs are more hypnotic and repetitive... and oddly uplifting at the end. And there's this cool thing that happens sometimes where little mistakes make subtle changes in the rhythm that reminds me of that zomby record from last year... but that's a bit of a stretch probably.
Anyway, one to search out.

That's an amazing album. And yes, easily one of the best of the year so far.

I'm listening to the new Burial. Second time through. I'll need a bit more time with it but I'm liking it a lot so far.

So any opinions on the new Burial EP anyone? I was somewhat underwhelmed on first listen. But I've played Ashtray Wasp a few times and it's grown on me to say the least.  Incredible stuff.

I'm on my first listen. I haven't paid attention to any of the singles or collaborations since Untrue, but I like this a lot so far.

I haven't listened to a single thing for a week and a half, and it's starting to corrode my soul. We're still in Russia, working 8 til 7 and then having a couple of beers and some food. By the time I get to the hotel, I'm fit for a bit of chat with the girls (praise be +4 time difference) and a choice of Russian football or horror-porn on the telly.

I guess there's room for some Demdike Stare on the headphones while that horror-porn's going on, but otherwise, I'm bereft, np-wise.

Horror porn? The man second only to davy in terms of paternal sensitivity to visual and audial violence in all its forms is sitting down to watch Hostel in his Russian hotel room?

I must admit, I'm more into the porn than the horror (lover not a fighter, you know how it is).

Or at least I would be if there wasn't this intriguing Russian Division 3 relegation clash on Channel 42.
