Fugazi - The Argument
It's still amazing to me that a band that was around for so long & made so many great albums were able to leave on such a high note. It's a fucking great record.

Dang. I could not afford Spotify if I paid what it's worth to me.

Yeah, but you could say that about anything. Like... bread. Or shoes!

Here's what's been on my turntable for the past week or so:
Hugo Largo - Mettle
Low - Things We Lost In The Fire
Laurie Anderson - Big Science
The Band - Music From Big Pink
Suzanne Vega - s/t
I've also been kind of obsessed with this lately:
http://www.npr.org/event/music/149644692/kathleen-edwards-tiny-desk-concert
I'd never heard of this woman before seeing the clip. I've since checked out a couple of her releases on Spotify and found they didn't do much for me. Something was lost in the fuller arrangements on the recordings. But the four songs in the above video, in stripped down arrangements, are really hitting me where I live. I even downloaded the audio and burned a CD so I could listen to it in my car. Over and over and over.

Tape Loop Orchestra - The Word On My Lips Is Your Name / The Burnley Brass Band Plays On In My Heart
Two forty-five minute pieces. Melancholy piano loops crumble, overlap and decay, causing sensuous little vibrations in the back of your skull in the first track, while brass blares dissolve into drone on the second. Andrew Hargreaves is having a good year.

This
slowed-down, 36 minute long version of Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights"
is one of the most fantastic sounding things I've heard lately!

Thank you. There's an altogether unsatisfactory 4 minute clip of it
here,
, but obviously it needs a lot longer to shapechange and work its full effect. Still, a flavour.

I'm so glad! You are literally only the 2nd person I know who's read it.
Which is a shame, cuz it's awesome.

And rightfully so. Mudhoney will considered one of the greats at any point in the future.
np:
Finally arrived in the post this week. The first 12" on the Editions Mego sub label Sensate Focus. No artist or tracks listed (but most are assuming this is Mark Fell/SND). Really nice 90's house with just enough skew to to push it into 2012. With so much overtly weird techno/house music being released right now it makes sense that these guys would choose to mess with shit in a more restrained manner. Kills!
Came with a Sensate Focus branded pencil. Only makes it better.

True. I've seen one of the two new albums described as Reichian bricolage. So, that degree of weird.

Reich isn't weird! I like the phrase "Reichian bricolage" though, even if I suspect it's a little meaningless.
