I even opened up an FCB Black Lager and took a few swigs and then thought, Hey, wait a minute. I've got Talisker. So I put the beer back in the fridge.

I got a bottle of Glenlivet Nądurra on the way home from the store tonight. I plan on having a snort after the dr's on Friday.

Tomorrow is my birthday.  It is also a Lagavulin tasting at the fancy liquor store near work.

WELL NOW

I recommended Lagavulin to a dude who never had scotch before. He was like "Why have I been wasting my life."

ALL THE LAGAVULIN!  They carry at least three bottlings, so there will be some adventures to be had.

The last time I went to the Violet Hour before leaving Chicago, Patrick made me a Lagavulin Brooklyn, which is exactly what it sounds like and was one of the best things I've ever had to drink.

The ending of Duke/UNC was such a horror I'm now drinking straight from my bottle of Gosling's Black seal

If I could, I'd drink Lagavulin every night. But since I can't, I drink Bowmore Legend.

A better Islay than Laphroaig, and at $30/bottle, almost half the price.

Trader Joe's, weirdly, has $30 Laphroiag 10.  Maybe that's just in the bay though.

Again, I'm upset that my Trader Joe's doesn't carry liquor.

A bottle of Lagavulin 16 might be next month's liquor purchase. I am itching to try that Nądurra though

Pretty sure I'm going with Balvenie next. But it'll be awhile before I'm done with the Talisker.

Do you go through an entire bottle before getting another? I'm trying to build a little whiskey index. Right now I've got

Buffalo Trace
Basil Hayden's
Bushmill's
Redbreast 12
Oban 14
Glenlivet Nądurra 16
Bulleit Rye

in various degrees of fullness. I really like being able to taste one in reference to another. Definitely looking forward to trying the Nądurra in comparison to some spicier, peatier scotches.

Good to know! Maybe Laphroiag realized Bowmore's on their ass.

That'd be great if I could afford it. I've got a few on my shelf right now, but generally, I can afford one nice bottle at a time. If I knew anybody who'd actually buy me whiskey as a gift once in a while, it might be a different situation.

Yeah I just don't drink that much liquor--usually a few ounces a week. I've had the bottles of Buffalo Trace and Bushmills since Thanksgiving, for example. I've been buying one decent bottle a month on average.

Good lord I have a ton of excellent craft beer in the closet & fridge though. And so much homebrew, some of which I haven't tried since January 1. Cannot wait to have a drink tomorrow.

Ick. Protestant whiskey.

I failed my major NY resolution and got drunk on Tuesday. A month wasn't bad, right?

Dogfish Head Immort Ale. Heavy and weird in a way I couldn't describe. Gf had a taste and nailed it," Starts out really smoky and then just finishes like band-aids."
Will not be buying again.

This Tuatara Hefe beer my boss keeps giving me says it tastes like banana, and it kinda does but in a good way.

I got really quite drunk for the first time a weekend or so ago, and I'd forgotten how much fun it is. I got used to thinking of it more as a tool to combat social awkwardity etc, but I was hanging out with a bunch of pretty great, smart, easy-to-talk-to people, and greatly enjoyed the headspins, poor coordination, shouting, wrestling Grace, and retrieving a straw hat off the roadside and chocolate drink without remembering.

Had some Talisker tonight.  Peatier than I generally like, but balanced overall and a bit of spiciness. Still have yet to have anything that tops the Oban.

Also had some B. Nektar cherry mead. It was unreal. Layers of tart cherry, vanilla, deep honey-wine sweetness. Damn.

If it's crazy hot, bringing it down to 50% or so is useful.  Something like George T. Stagg will just blow out your tastebuds at full blast.  I'll go the one-ice-cube route a lot of the time, or sip reeeeally slow.
