My process for tying a tie:
1) Tie a simple Victoria knot of decent quality.
2) Realize I'm slightly dissatisfied with it, either because the dimple isn't set well enough or the length is just a bit too long.
3) Try a different knot.
4) End up totally dissatisfied with the results.
5) Repeat steps 3-4 usually 2-3 times.
6) Tie another simple Victoria knot slightly inferior to the first.

Very similar to my method, only I don't really know any other knots.

Today I had the idea to buy a pair of Birkenstocks because of my swollen boat feet. I didn't actually do it but I might need an intervention. Send help.

I occasionally try a double windsor, then I am unhappy with how the knot is totally huge, and go with the Victoria instead.

Man, you are looking good dude.
Continuing with the new job theme ... my relatively formal new job + my unbelievably casual current workplace + my somewhat recent weightloss that rendered whatever vestiges I might once have had of a professional wardrobe worthless=the sudden need to completely re-outfit myself.
Add that to the fact that I've made a strategic decision to hide all the ink that is hideable for now, and to the fact that I can really only shop at establishments that will cater to very tall women, and I'm looking at some serious time online and a bit of a strain on my wallet.
But feeling motivated to dress like a grown-up is so totally worth it.
Edit: I mean yeah, I cobbled together a couple of interview outfits. But they were like, my ONLY options, and I still felt underdressed. All the ladies were wearing heels. Do I get a pass on heels on account of being nearly 6'3" and plus they reaaallly hurt my weirdo feet?

Wedges! I guess those aren't too formal. Are there formal wedges?

I mean, mostly I just feel ridiculous in heels. I get that some women like them, and some women I know say that wearing heels makes them feel more attractive and/or powerful, but frankly I just feel like a teetering mess, standing there somewhere roundabouts 6'5", slouching or bending over so I can be at eye-level with people or even have a conversation while walking. I think it's kind of a silly position to put myself in is all.

Thank you mc! I like it when people tell me what I want to hear when it comes to my ouchy feet and my deepseated insecurities in re: my stature!

I want to hang out with Jeb, FK, Em and all the other tall people so I can pretend I am six. Can I get you to hold my hands and swing me in the air? And then we can get icecream.

For real. We could pretend to be twins or something. People always used to assume this really tall kid in my class in high school and I were twins.
Edit: Actually, we have the same birthday if I remember correctly! I can see this ruse going somewhere ...
Double-edit: X-post, yes of course we can go get ice cream.

Totally! As long as they're, you know, formal flats....trying to remember back to CJs shoes in West Wing. I'm sure she had something to say about them...

Oh I see, the Dave Matthews Band is playing about thirty miles from my house this week. I wonder if it's just in the air
(still considering it, feet are so sad)

My sister got a pair of Birkenstocks as a gift from a crazy, rich coworker and swears that they are the most comfortable shoes she has ever owned. I can't wear them because I need sandals with an ankle strap or some way of staying on my feet. You should get some because I can't! Sad feet are not worth it.

Today I myself am wearing a Kelvin knot (as far as I can tell, a name that originated entirely with
Dr. Fink
) in the cross variation, that is, with the blade drawn finally through two loops rather than one. And in a fabric that renders that variation almost completely invisible. There's a certain mysticism to tie knots at this level, with their evocative names and rigorous enumerations, that are almost entirely indistinguishable to any (and I mean any) observer. One appreciates on a silly, aesthetic level wearing something that has been rigorously encoded and established far, far in excess of even the most superficial of impacts it can make.
