nope! it used to be! but then in 2006 NZ were expected to get involved in like 7 conflicts around the world and they were like, fuck our army has like seven people in it, and so TF became a real proper thing. you still only go on weekends, plus a few two-week field exercises in a year, but deployment is a very real possibility if you want it.
