I have tons of white shirts with all kinds of stains on them because that is the circle of life.

I've got a white T-shirt that I got from the Ocean Star Oil Rig & Museum in Galveston TX. I wear it ironically, so after Iris smudged it with a permanent black marker, I just tell people it's an oil spill.

I'll be real. My white shirts tend to have a short life span as they quickly move to the "I can't wear this in public because it has weird yellow pit stains" section of my closet where apparel is left to rot.

I have one white button down in circulation right now. I treat it like a precious and fragile thing.
You know, a major contributor to awful pit stains is aluminum in deodorant.  I switched to Tom's Of Maine and poof, no more stains.

Man Tom's deodorant is the worst though.  I don't know maybe it's just me.  I perspire less than average I'd say and I like to scale back deodorant intensity to a level where I am not smelling like ass but also not slathering myself in chemicals.  Tom's just did not work for me at all though.  My wife makes this stuff out of I don't know what that works pretty well, only drawback is in hot/humid weather (hello East TX) it goes from a paste to a liquid.  Right now we use a bar of this stuff she got from Lush I think and it works well and smells like pine.  I like it.

That is my opinions about deodorant.

Deodorant is one of the few toiletries I feel passionately about. Not because I perspire a lot or anything, but because I love my brand so much. It basically doubles as my cologne.

It's pricey, so I try to use it sparingly.

The deodorant angle is perhaps an important one, as I use Old Spice. I presume Old Spice is rife with aluminum not only because it is a major brand stick deodorant, but also because it has a ship on it and I associate that with fish. Naturally, fish makes me think of mercury poisoning and heavy metals. Clearly, Old Spice is the culprit.

Also, in regards to Lush: I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I really like Lush as a company. I rarely shop there, sure. But my experiences with them and their products have been uniformly very satisfying. Sayin'.

Davy: consider me intrigued by your herby cowboy deodorant and I intend to keep an eye/nose out for this brand.

Old Spice is one of the few super-available brands that has decent smelling deodorants w/o anti-perspirant. That natural cowboy stuff davy's talkin' about works ok but it tends to form powerful smelliances with my stink and the results are highly unfavorable. I think you can get it at Vegan Essentials for about 7.99 a stick, and those're on the small side - none of your big boy sizes. You live in what is probably the alternative deodorant capital of the United States, though, so I'd say the world's your oyster.

I've tried a couple of the Lush deodorants, and one was super irritating and the other was way too patchouli heavy. I know they've added some to the line since then though.

I tried some of my guy friend's Arm & Hammer natural unscented deodorant when we were down at the beach in AL, and it worked well even in the heat and was only minimally scented (few unscented deos truly are). I'm actually considering buying a stick. I prefer unscented deodorants, because I try to be minimally scented when doing clinical work, and if I'm wearing scented products, I'd rather people smell my perfume or lotion than "shower fresh" or "powder clean" or whatever. Girl deodorant scents suck.

Unpack plz.

Arm & Hammer is pretty good... but I always find this stick disproportionately expensive. I always fall away from it. Plus, I was once told I was odorous. Well! Now I carry lit lavender incense everywhere I go. Nobody knows what the hell is going on 'round me.

We use that Arm & Hammer stuff. Bill uses the unscented, because he never smells bad anyway (Tom's deodorant made him smell bad!). I use the 'Fresh' which doesn't smell like much but staves off my gross better than the unscented. I've used Lush powder deodorant to no avail. Am considering trying Lavanila and/or something from highly recommended etsy shops.

Also I am excited about the possibility of fitting into my old clothes again soonish. Eeeeee.

Life-long Old Spice guy myself. Though I moved from the regular old traditional round Old Spice stick to the High Endurance Fresh scent flat stick 20 years or more ago. After a brief period in my 20s when I used a generic deodorant and then switched back to the Old Spice, my girlfriend at the time said "You smell like Jim again!" so I guess that's what smells like Jim.

Though I think sometimes if I'm wearing certain materials and sweating a lot and wearing this deodorant there's a bit of cat piss smell created, maybe one of those "smelliances" Iggy mentioned.

Man, does everyone wear deodorant? I always thought deodorant was somehow bad for you. I tried it when I going through puberty and it just made me smell worse, for one thing, and for another it felt nasty, all rolling up in there. I think I class it with foundation makeup as something society invented to make people feel bad about their bodies, but then I live in a dry climate. If I was dripping sweat day and night I might change my tune.

I remember my 7th grade english class smelling so awful right after lunch. That is why I wear deodorant.

I wear unscented for sensitive skin--I believe it is Almay. I have to, because I sweat like crazytimes. Many indignant calls have been made by me to various friends from the deodorant aisle at Walgreens, ie "why on earth does anyone think that having their underarms smell like vanilla chai (actual scent!) is a good idea?"
It probably has the same amount of chemicals as scented, though, so who am I kidding.

Yeah very few people are physiologically blessed/utterly oblivious enough to go without deodorant. Certainly I'm not.

Deodorant's bad for you? I know anti-persperant is bad for you cause it's made out of old soda cans, but just plain old deodorant?

I use deodorant on some days, but certainly not all days. Sometimes it seems to improve things, but the days on which I get really really annoyed by my own smell tend to be the ones on which I did put on deodorant and then my own body smell reacts in a really weird way with that chemical smell. It doesn't always happen, but it does often enough to make me think twice about whether it's a good idea to use any. I haven't yet found a deo that doesn't have that effect (except for those unscented crystal stone thingies, but I am unconvinced that they have any effect whatsoever), although I must admit I haven't been searching very thoroughly - not much fun to keep buying the stuff and then never using it up. And most of the days I don't use any I seem to end up smelling fine, as far as I can tell.

I am the sweatiest person I know. Antiperspirant gives me the illusion that I have tried my best to keep my body in check. Even as sweat insists on gushing out of anything so much as resembling a perforation in my skin, I can nod and say: I did not stand idly by.

I have found that some deodorants make me smell funkier; either by somehow magnifying the smell or by mixing with the smell in an unpleasant way.  Weirdly, I feel like if I wear one deodorant for too long, it becomes less effective.  I have no idea if that's all in my head or what.

I sweat profusely at the slightest provocation, so I wear it every day, but just a tiny bit.  And I rotate brands about every other stick or so.

I use deodorant on some days, but certainly not all days.

But mainly because I have one stick and live in two places.

I may try to go unscented for awhile, despite what I said earlier about Herban Cowboy, because L has me using this nice-smelling Bath & Body Works body wash (yes its for dudes), and you can't avoid the clash when you use both.

Related question: do any guys around here wear cologne?

I don't, and haven't since I was in high school. But L appreciates it when I smell nice, and has called my attention to a brand or two, so it might not be a bad idea to invest in a bottle for special occasions.
