I will be in New York in August
We're going to get together with our foreheads suspended over graduated cylinders and settle this ONCE AND FOR ALL.

I don't like strong smells outside of food, so I'm strong against scented anything. If we're not getting ready to have sex, I'd rather that I not smell you.
Given that, if you're going to smell like something, I have more faith in the scent selection made by a fragrance manufacturer than a Proctor and Gamble lab, so have at it, davy. Just please go easy on it if we're gonna share a cab.

I'm typically in the same boat as you! Axe dudes make me rage. Like I said, I haven't owned or worn cologne in 15 years. Just wondering what LPTJ has to say on the topic.
That said, I sniffed some John Varvatos bottles in the mall the other day and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was.

I like the smell of many colognes and I find the discipline interesting. But every time I am looking at them I can't really imagine like, trying to identify with one of those smells. Like—this is not just a nice smell! This is how
I
smell!

I tried to find that cologne at Macy's this weekend solely based on that video, but the perfume ladies were terrifying. I have no idea what it smells like. I just know I need it. ALSO IT IS CALLED CUMMING

A couple Christmases ago, my dad's gf gave me a Carolina Panthers toiletry bag and it came stuffed with a half dozen various NFL-branded toiletries. I held onto two of them for shits and giggles:
They both reek to high heaven. Sickly sweet industrial nastiness, the cologne especially. But you can throw a modicum of it on and it'll engulf you like a toxic nebula and when one of your buddies finally asks "what the fuck are you wearing" you can reply "The NFL"

Also I've found that you can duplicate the desired effect of cologne by using a gentle amount of a nice-smelling aftershave.

I've been thinking about getting some nice aftershave! A couple weeks ago, I shaved my beard for the summer, and now that I'm having to shave regularly again, it would be really nice to have something nice to splash on my face afterwards.
Somehow or another, I've never used it before.

It justifies itself when you're hugging your lady and she's nuzzling your neck and she inhales really loudly and kind of hums against your skin.

Can I play? I can bring my own graduated cylinder.
But yeah, I sweat a ton and use deodorant every day. I am strangely weirded out by antiperspirant using much the same logic that makes me not want to take anything to reduce a fever when I have a fever. It's from my body so it should be good, right? Also I'd need a stick a day, spreading antiperspirant all down my sides, my lower back, etc.

I felt like that until I found the perfume I currently use (though far from daily), which I loved the moment I first smelled it. It's technically a men's fragrance, though I don't think people would characterize it as such necessarily based on scent, since it's woodsy/incense-y but also fairly sweet:

Oh man, I love cologne. Totally love it. I went through a long period of wearing CK One, and the bloke's mother still buys us the Summer limited release every year. I'm super-fussy though, so it's a bit hit and miss. I really like another one of the CK range called In2U, or something silly, but I'm trying to get through the Summer backlog right now, so I don't have any. My winter smell tends to be from
L'Occitane
. The description makes it sound like something that wouldn't work for me at all, but it's great, and people will say "wow, you smell nice, what is it?". However it only works for me in winter, when it starts to get warm I think it's another "smelliance" (great word!!) and probably the musk is too strong or something. I pretty much love or hate a smell from the first.
Deodorant, I use it, but hardly ever anti-perspirant. I'm not very sweaty - even after I've come back from a run I'm kind of clammy, but not drippy, but if I don't use deodorant every day I get smelly. I refuse to shave or wax my armpits, so i think that adds to the smell :-/

This girl I fell in love with in high school used to wear CK One! Now whenever I smell it, it makes me feel 15 and totally heartbroken all over again!

I've got one of those! I never learned the brand name, but it's fairly common and I catch scent of it on the street all the time.

Yeah, I also often oversmell the one that my totally loopy co-worker ex used to wear, but that usually just elicits a chuckle and head-shake rather than the Teenage Emotional Torrent I associate with CK One.
CK One was always marketed as unisex, and while I mostly ever smelled it on ladies back in mid-nineties NH, it seems like it's way more common on young latino guys in NYC nowadays. Who I imagine would be somewhat nonplussed if I told them, "OH DUDE YOU SMELL LIKE YOU'RE BREAKING MY HEART"

My teenage love affairs are wrapped in the Plumeria scent from Bath & Body Works, an Herbal Essences shampoo they don't make anymore, and one of the Old Spice High Endurance deodorants. But they don't make me sad.
I love colognes and perfumes, but not really heavy ones that infest houses and seat belts and the air in the office. I have a ton of perfume oils from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab.. One of the things I like is that most of them float away and disappear after half a day, so I don't get a headache or feel sick. Current favorites are Embalming Fluid, Calico Jack, Lemon Scented Sticky Bat, and The Last Unicorn. I have a bunch of 'real' perfumes (brand names and spritz tops!) and the one I like best is Burberry Brit Sheer.

I'm probably about average in terms of sweatiness but my pits seem to reek pretty much constantly no matter what, so I wear deodorant every day. Usually Mennen Speed Stick. I can't stand cologne or perfume so I've never worn any.

One thing about working for 10 years in a plant manufacturing personal care products is that when I smell these scents I think of batch numbers and forumale, not people.

It is a mild 80°F here. I just walked two blocks to the post office, four blocks roundtrip. I could fill a shot glass with the sweat that has rolled down my neck in the five minutes since I have returned home.
Greg Nog and mountmccabe, it is ON
