The 17th amendment changed the balance of power between the federal and the states, in favor of the federal government. Somehow you spin being against it into being a white supremacists. You can certainly be against the 17th Amendment for non-racist (but still dumb) reasons, but basically the only groups in the United States who make the 17th Amendment an issue are sovereign citizen groups. This may as well go in here as a LOLberals thing, because I just went on the most humiliating protest of my life. Thank god I was there to take pictures rather than chant. It was against state asset sales, which is a major political problem here atm. I’m not sure what the worst part was: the fact that people shouted over the politicians and unionists speaking up front, the woman screaming into the mic “John Key’s a poo! John key’s a poo!” or when Winston Peters (leader of NZ First, who whatever their other significant flaws have always been opposed to state asset sales) came to speak and an idiot activist up front turned off the mic because apparently he had been ‘lied to’ in an email about Winston speaking, and got booed by the crowd. I shouted at him afterwards for that. The whole thing was like a parody of crazy lefties. The corporate media is going to have a field day, and I’m on their side this time. Good god.
